Hello all, I'm in the process readying my tool chest in preparation for the install of XRC rear corner armor. I've got the fronts nearly completed, and found the nutcert install tool leaves a lot to be desired in terms of function.
A lot of threads list the insert tool as a "should have", and since there are quite a few inserts to install, I think I should have one for this job.
My concern is, once I'm done with it, that'll probably be the last time I use it; which leads me to my question. Does anyone have one lying around that they could sell, or possibly loan to me? I'll pay shipping and insurance etc...., or purchase it outright.
I apologize if this should be in the for sale/wanted ad section, but I figured there'd be a little more traffic in the tech section. If there are none available, I am open to suggestions on nutsert install, I can see problems developing from the supplied tool, and I'd like to avoid that if possible. Thanks in advance!
Made my own. Used a bolt, nut and some washers. Bolt needs to be the size of the nutsert. Screw the nut onto the bolt then slide the washers (2) onto the bolt. Finally screw the bolt onto the nutsert. Push the nutsert into the drilled hole. Tighten the nut to the nutsert and keep tightening until the nutsert is tight. Unscrew bolt. Repeat. Mine lasted for 10 nutsert son and then was toast. Cost like 3 bucks. Good luck.
I did the same thing as Kraxler did. The only diff. was Instead of washers, I drilled out a nut.You just have to really understand when to stop tightening down, to early is always a pain to deal with. Get a couple extras and a piece of sheet metal to do a test. That way you can see whats going on in the back side. Here are my door panels I did for my old Jeep. I remade the panels in thicker material then original so the hardware wouldn't fit. I drilled out the stock holes, installed 13 rivenuts on each side, installed panels. That was about 3 years ago, still doing their job.
Installed Metal Cloaks with a zillion Nutcerts. Best advice for nutcerts? Buy the tool. It's a job best done right the first time. Fuggering just one of those up will ruin your day. Good luck with those by the way, I've heard some real horror stories mounting those SB flares.
My lift install was going great until I sheared off one of the nutserts for a limiting strap. I guess 90psi on the air wrench was a little too much. :happyyes:
I've installed dozens of nutserts using the tool, but they were all 1/4-20 and smaller size. I got carried away with my airgun on the 4th and last 1/2-13 nutsert for the limiting straps. Off to order more...
Nevermind, I was able to use my magnetic pickup tool to fish the back end of the nutsert out of the frame rail, line it up with the front half, use picks to seat it, and then screw in the limit strap. It's seated and happy now. Thank goodness for my last 15 years of random tool purchasing.
