I just changed my oil last evening. Advance auto did not have the 2014 Wrangler in their system, so they gave me the oil filter from a 2013. After I installed the new filter and oil, the low oil pressure light came on with the check engine. I drove it around the block, once the oil pressure came up the oil pressure light went off. I noticed that the stock filter was different on the one end than the one I had bought. I put the old filter back on and now the oil pressure is good, but the check engine light is on still. Advance auto cannot read a 2014 yet, so I was wondering what should I do or is there a trick to reset the engine light.
they didn't. they had to put the old one back in. It was 7pm and too late to get to the dealer. Taking my wifes car to pick up the filter today and going back foR a credit and new oil. Guys were nice about it of course.
Again I usually do it myself but since I didn't catch this issue on the forum its pRobably good that I didn't. I may have not figured it out for a while.

RoadiJeff-
We have free lifetime oil and filter changes at our dealer, so they will be doing this service for us all the time. They've already changed it 3x in the first 5,000 miles, with another one coming up in a few more weeks.

If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. Free life time oil changes?
Ah Nah, you paid for the oil change for sure somewhere. Nothing is free. Just an observation, I would be very skeptical of "free."

I am pretty particular when it comes to oil, but my dad has put the same 15w-40 that he picked up at work (I think they but it in semi trucks) in every one of his new cars the last 20 years @ every 5000 miles, averaging a little over 30,000 miles a year. His cars are usually mid size vehicles (he's had a couple sebrings, status's, an altima I think, he's had so many over the years). He has never had any engine problems. Lives in the Midwest. Has he just gotten really lucky? Or does viscosity not really matter that much? I know this is a little off topic, just thought about it while reading this thread.
I used the dealership to purchase my 2014 filters for about $7. each. So I picked up 2 last week. I use Mobil 1 5w30 extended performance and a local garage for my oil changes. since my dealership service dept is not open on Saturdays.
The local garage I use has a excellent oil change guy. Been working for them for over 15 years. He takes the time to check all fluid levels. Including transmission, transfer care and all differentials. While rotating my tires he checks brakes and all things under my Jeep. Sure this takes longer time than a regular oil change, but it can prevent major problems later down the road. Just my 2 cents worth.
My dealer ran a special for 10 oil changes (5 quarts and filter) for $100 bucks. Of course I pay for the extra quart of oil, but its like an extra 6 bucks. So it costs about 16 bucks an oil change.
LOL, I was gonna have the wife swing the Jeep by to get the oil changed, but this thread just made me change my plans. Picked up the oil today and having the wife swing by the dealer to pick up a few filters. Gonna change it myself.
just joined the forum a couple days ago ...wow ...great info. guys .I'm on my 3rd Jeep and glad I read the oil change info. Differences from a 2013 to 2014 . By the way my first Jeep was a CJ5 in 1974 ... $4400.00 new !!! The latest one a 2014 Wrangler .......ah .. $$$$$.$$ .. Kinda tells us where our dollar value has gone
I had a 2006 Unlimited just bought a 14 unlimited, and supposedly the Jeep is gonna tell me when to change my oil.. Used to change it every 3000- 5000 miles depending on my driving.. Word from the dealership was Jeep put in an additive for the 1st oil to help engine break in, and change the oil the first time when the dash board gennie says to. Well got 8000 miles on it still no word from the voice in the dash so to speak.. any recommendations...?
I change my oil every 4,000 miles. My oil change warning light has never come on. I may be able to go longer between changes, but oil is relatively cheap so I just chance it rather than risking engine damage. Oil is much cheaper than a new engine.
Just pick one that meets the MS-6395 specification and you will be fine. Any specific brand will just be to give you warm and fuzzy placebo effect of marketing.
