Just like the title says, I'm an idiot. I followed a write up from another forum that said to grease the slip yoke until you see grease coming out from the splines. I pumped grease for what seemed like an eternity, until the cap started to push out. So I know I need to try and remove some of the grease, but my question is did I destroy this seal? In the picture you can see that it pushed out about 1/4 of an inch. Can I just press it back on with some C clamps or something? Thanks for any and all advise.
Just going to make a bit of a mess when it gets flung off when the shaft compresses some driving down the road that's all.
That blue coating on the splines is what will wear off if it is not greased enough and that will cause some play in the splines and may cause a vibration.
That happened to me the first time I greased my Tom Woods driveshaft after I got it installed as well. I just moved the seal forward and cleaned around the area and popped the seal back on by hand. I found the seal is pretty tight around the splines and doesn't allow enough grease to pass by without popping off the seal.
Mine has a hole at the end. I did the same and after compressing the shaft it all came out.
