Got a set of 520s (i think) on my windshield for about 3 years and i keep blowing bulbs. Only one blows at a time and it alternates sides. Piaa said 3 years ago they got a batch of bad bulbs in but its been 3 years and still blowing bulbs. Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on this matter? Thx
You are not getting finger prints on the bulbs when you install them? (Had to ask.) Any humidity issues, condensation within the housings? Voltage constant?
No fingerprints and as far as i know no voltage drop. I installed an inline fuse for a little extra protection. The thing is these bulbs arent blown. The filament still looks in tact
A while back I was using PIAA H3 bulbs in the fog lights of my daily driver, and couldn't get them to last more than about 8 months. That was with 55W bulbs too. I had about 6-8 bulbs replaced under warranty from PIAA, but then I gave up on them. If your 520s came with 85W bulbs then they may not last very long at all.
It may not actually be your bulb blowing. I have a set mounted in the bumper, and after two months one went out. I took the light apart and noticed the light filament was still intact. I found the problem to be the grounding wire had come unsoldered from the bulb housing. A soldering iron and 10 minutes later, the ground leads on both lights were re-soldered to the light housing, and I haven't had a problem since. The solder used for the ground wire is very thin. For an off-road light, PIAA should do better.
I may have to check that out because whenever this last one went out i banged on it a couple of times and it came back on for another hour or so. Just long enough to get me off the mountain! So maybe it is a loose connection. Thx for the input!
