There are pre-made wire kits for the JK series.

And no, it won't interfere with the CANBUS. The brake light system has some leeway. You just don't get the separate fuse factory wired ones get.

I tried to be good, but I got bored...

We get a mopar branded hitch from bestbars in new zealand down here, and they come with a plug in 7 pin flat plug (current standard down here).

You simply unplug the current wiring at the tail light, plug the new trailer wiring loom onto the now vacant tail lights connection, the existing wiring loom then plugs into sockets on the new trailer wiring loom.

Simply plug and play Nothing else required.

Why did you have to have the computer flashed?

as far as I know you have to have the computer flashed for the plug and play type of trailer wiring harness.

I simply paid $11 for a universal harness and tapped into the wires just to the left of the rollcage where it ties into the tub on the left side. all the wires you need are right there, even the right side wires. ran the harness down and into the cubby, and I simply drop them out of the cubby drain plug hole when I need them and pull them back up when I dont.

I put a JK specific wire harness in my 09 Rubicon. The harness had the flat 4 pin connector on one end and a male and female plug on the other. It was simply a matter of removing the passenger's side tail light, unplugging the tail light harness, plug the trailer harness in between the two connectors I just unplugged, and routing the harness down to the hitch. No need for a computer flash. A 7 pin connector may be a different story, but any trailer with a 7 pin connector will likely exceed the tow capacity of the Jeep anyway.

I bought a hitch and wiring from Quadretec.
It is a plug and play from the drivers side tailight and it is by far the easiest wiring I have ever done.

So as long as you stay with the 4 pin, no flash will be required is the consensus? and thanks for the info!

I installed 7 pin in my 2014 JKU and did not have to flash the computer even though the Stealership tried to tell me I needed it done. The problem I had was I had no right turn signal to the trailer. Again Stealership tried to get me to come pay to have the computer flashed. Now here comes the kicker. My Jeep is RHD. I did buy the Mopar 7 pin harness which they claim works for all models. Even RHD. Tried to explain to them that my Jeep is missing a wire and they still tried to get me to flash the computer. I only have 4 wires to taillight plug. I had to run a wire myself. Dealer would not even get me the parts to correct it even though Mopar still claims that this is still plug and play.
