Rear Bumper Options

Today, my rear bumper met a trash can... A plastic, run of the mill trash can... Dang thing jumped out right behind me (couldn't have been that the back window was covered in mud and I couldn't see jack out of it)... Anyway, bumper, meet trash can, trash can, meet bumper... They kissed, trash can left her mark on that flimsy POS bumper that you can bend to the touch... Left a nice little crease in the bumper... Nothing major, just an eyesore... Anywho, now I'm using it as an excuse to replace it with something a little bit more substantial... I'm looking for something that will accept the factory tow receiver and recovery hook (I'd hate to lose them), no tube bumpers (not that I don't like them, it's just not the look I have in my mind with where I'm heading), and is reasonably priced (talking <$400)... Anybody have any suggestions or experience... I'm all ears... Thanks everyone.

JCR Offrosd makes a nice stubby bumper with d-rings and I think accommodates stock tow receiver for like $289 or body armor's rear base bumper around the same price would work.

I'm really liking that JCR Offroad standard rear bumper (didn't really like the stubby)... A little more than I wanted to spend, but very nice looking... I've seen the Body Armor bumper before, but I couldn't make up my mind... It looks a little bit DIY and doesn't really flow enough for my taste... Thanks for the suggestions! Any more are more than welcome! Bring them on!

There are a lot to choose from. Good luck in your search. I like the LOD's.

The Smittybilt SRC and Smittybilt XRC both have 2" receivers in them, but they aren't tow rated like the factory hitch is.

The Rugged Ridge Xtreme Heavy Duty Rear Bumper will allow you to keep the factory tow rated hitch, but it is a little out your price range.

This Olympic 4x4 Rear Rock Bumper fits into your price range and will also allow you to maintain the factory hitch.

Let me know if you have any questions!

The factory receiver bolts to the frame, not to the bumper. The JK rear bumper is nothing more than a hollow plastic cover for the frame end.

I am fully aware... That's why I'm looking to remove the old "bumper", leave the factory receiver and tow hook, and place a new bumper where the old one was... The problem is that many aftermarket bumpers either have an incorporated receiver or no cutout for the factory one... The purpose of the thread is to get suggestions that allow use of the factory equipment...

By incorporating a receiver into thier rear bumper design and using the existing bolt holes, a bumper manufacturer gains strength to their design without requiring drilling new holes in the frame. Your old receiver is easily sold afterwards on Ebay.

Look at ARB's rear bumper. I think it retains the OEM receiver.

While some aftermarket bumpers that require you to remove the factory hitch do use those same holes for mounting, those aftermarket bumpers aren't rated for towing.

Some people will tow light trailers with them, even if they're not rated for it, but you won't get any support if something goes wrong while doing that. The receivers in the aftermarket bumpers that aren't tow rated are designed for recovery, not towing.
