I'm thinking of a long bar behind the spare tire that runs the length of the gate but I'm also thinking of mounting directly to the gate or even the bumper edges...
Does anyone sell brackets for this?
*I do not want to mount to the taillights.
*Stock rear tire carrier.
A long bar mounted to the TG behind the spare tire would definitely light up the back of the tire, but I don't know how much would leak around the tire. bumpus has found a good spot, although some move the 3rd brake light there when installing larger tires.
If you are planning to use the light for auxiliary back up lights or rear facing work lights, then I have seen some of the small square ones mounted in an aftermarket bumper, on top of the rear bumper and on top of the stock rear lights.
I'm have a Rigid Industries SRM diffused light. I'm having a mount fabricated by Starbright & War Pig from this forum to work with my Teraflex third brake light mount for my HD Teraflex Hinge Carrier. I will use it to illuminate the immediate area behind my Jeep for camping and other times where I need a light behind my jeep. I created the design and War Pig is fabricating the mount for me. I will post pics when it is completed. The mount is specific to the TF third brake light mount that came with the TF tire carrier.
Hey ATX, who is Starbright & War Pig ? Do they have a shop?
Looking to do something similar. Spent this past weekend looking at aluminum tubing and sheets at Lowes. Thinking I might be able to hack something together and use the alum soldering method.
Starbright used to be Moderator here for a short time and her husband War Pig sells the rear seat recline kit on this Forum. They have a shop at heir home where they work on small projects but not a mechanic type shop. They like to tinker so they were kind enough to help me out with a fabricating s rear light mount.
sub'd I'm looking to do the same thing on the rear of my JK. I like the mounted light on the tire carrier but I'm interested in putting lights somewhere more fixed so i can have the back of my Jeep lit up while the tail gate is swung open.
Where and how are yours mounted? I'm thinking of a long bar behind the spare tire that runs the length of the gate but I'm also thinking of mounting directly to the gate or even the bumper edges... I never looked at my original bumper. Can they be flush mounted or is it up against the frame? Flush looks better in my opinion with less chance of knocking them off.
ended up with the Olympic, which it was "scale-able" so you could bring it closer to the wheel for pweny stock wheels and move it out when you have larger wheels. It's night though the pods line up with the edge of the hard top so I do not see them in the rear view.
I drilled into the thrid brake light mount aluminum to mount a small 18W spot/flood LED light. I installed the relay and took the power from the 12V power outlet in the rear of the jeep. I only had to run a single wire from the switch up front to turn the light on.
