Are there bearings or bushings that wear out. I've had a kachunk going on back there for quite awhile. Tried adjusting door latch and guide but can't get it quiet.

If you are hearing the noise when opening the tailgate then the hinges might be damaged from too much weight.

If you are hearing the noise when driving over bumps then a latch/striker/guide adjustment will probably solve it. I had a clunk when going over bumps and a few wraps of electric tape around the striker solved it.

Thank you so much for the electric tape idea. It took 99% of the kachunk away. I've been battling that for two years, adjusting the latch and guide. I had it diminished quite a bit but the last time I adjusted the guide I snapped the head of a bolt off.

Electrical tape will certainly work for a little while. Fact is that your hinges are wearing from the weight of your spare tire. It will inevitably get worse. Instead of an expensive aftermarket hinge replacement I chose to replace the OEM hinges with a set of take off hinges that got off a local for sale message board. They were off a new Rubi that someone had installed a $600 teraflex gate hinge.
I would think about checking eBay or Craigslist in the future for a set.
I got mine for $25 bucks and a rattle can of silver paint.
Easy to replace. Prop the gate about halfway open on a sawhorse shim it level with boards and remove and replace 1 hinge at a time. That way no need to take the entire heavy tailgate off it stays propped on the sawhorses and is always attached with one hinge while you're changing them out.
