Rear Seat Angle

Just curious if anyone has played with a way to recline the rear seats a bit? They are a tad to upright for comfort...

Yes. Common modification.

Loosen all the bolts to the floor for the rear seats.

Add a few grade 8 washers under each of the front legs.

Some guys take one if the bolts to the hardware store to get the bolt size right and then buy longer replacements.

Tighten everything back up.

They are really tight and have thread locker on them. You will need an impact wrench or a breaker bar. You can also heat the stock bolts up a little to soften the thread locker.

So, having done this, it pitches the seats back...but the sitting angle is still 90* (approximately). Anyone know if one can recline the upper a bit? Even pitched back, the kids (and occasional adult) are still complaining about the angle.

Put 2x 1/2" washers under each of the three supports on the slanted portion of the jeep tub under the backrests.

I just got a kit of phenolic block spacers. I haven't installed it yet but so far it is well reviewed on this site and others.

I'm sure they're nice, but I didn't like the price, so I opted for a piece of 48" x 1.5" x 1/8" aluminum flatstock, cut 14 pieces to 2.5" long, and then drilled 1/2" holes. $20 total, including the 10" cutting blade. It took me longer to get the darn bolts out!
