Replacement Fog Light Bulbs. LED?

Howdy all.

I am still very much a new-be on the forum, and with my now 6-week old JKU Rubicon Hard Rock.

My son pointed me to my first mod, Petersen LED headlights. Wow. Just - WOW!

My problem now is that my fog lights look like weak candles compared to the low-beam headlights. Really wimpy and pathetic.

A ask the great gathering of group wisdom here, is there a recommended LED replacement bulb for the stock fog light system? Prefferably under $100. the wife was so kind to allow the purchase of this new JKU, I don't want to stress the budget with several hundred more for bulbs.

Thanks much, Happy Easter.

I bought these off of eBay. Less than $30 and they are bright white. I have a trucklite LED headlights and these bulbs are almost brighter than the headlights.

So here's the million dollar question...Do they actually work better in the fog?? When driving in fog brighter lights usually isn't a good thing. The brighter the lights the more fog you can see which is why people don't drive with their high beams on in the fog.

Seems to me these would increase visibility during general nighttime drive but decrease vis while driving in fog.

I installed the same LED bulbs as Honey Badger into my stock fog light housing and they work great. I also purchased mine on Ebay. They sell for $24.29.

Here is a picture with the LED bulb and the stock bulb for comparison.

Stock fog light only. As you can see, the LED fog lights are much much brighter.

i wonder if these will fit a 2013? I wouldn't think the bulb changed for 2014 but on that link it shows its not compatible with a 2013 model.

Glad I could help. Between getting an H4 headlight conversion kit and these LED fog light bulbs, my lights are greatly improved. When I first got my Jeep, I would find myself constantly checking to see if my headlights were even turned on because the lights were so bad.

Dont know about the '10 being listed 2X, might be a mix out there. When I get the TruckLites installed, I will be huntin up some led FL bulbs, or just take the RI pods and put them in the FL spots if the TLs headlights are good.

The bulbs are easy to change. There are 2 tabs on the stock bulb base. You squeeze those tabs in and pull the bulb out of the housing. Disconnect the wire harness and plug it into the new bulb. The most difficult part was just reaching under the bumper to get to the light bulb. But that is not too difficult, just use a flashlight so you can see what you are doing.

Wow - thanks for all the GREAT replies. It looks like the $25 E-Bay special is the way to go.

How is the beam pattern from them? I know there is an adjustment for the fog light vertical aiming, so am I safe in assuming that these replacement LED bulbs will not be blinding oncoming traffic - or - blinding me in the fog by being too high?

Thanks much for the great replies.

The light pattern seems to be a little wider than the stock bulb but I think that is partially because the LED lights bulbs are so much brighter than the stock bulb. I have stood at the end of my driveway with the headlights and fog lights on and the fog lights are not any brighter than the headlights. I have never been flashed by anyone with the fog lights turned on.

This picture below is the fog lights only turned on. As you can see most of the lights is on the ground right in front of the Jeep. I left the stock fog light housings as they were installed and adjusted from the factory. I have used the fog lights several times in foggy conditions and the lights light the road and do not shine up into the fog.

Here's a pic showing the stock vs the eBay fogs for $25. I'm ready to test them out tonight!

I also just installed a pair of those 80W LED bulbs in my fogs. They are bright, and they do not have a sharp cutoff, so I think they might not be great in fog (haven't had any lately). I have been surprised I haven't been flashed by other drivers yet. They do work good for driving lights, illuminating the shoulders of the road quite well.

I bought these same bulbs, with a different base, for my reverse lights -- really great! highly recommend them. Here is a link:

I'm using mine for Daytime Running Lights as I have an AEV Procal and set the DRL for the fog lights. I'm kind of OCD and wants the fogs to match the Quadratec LED headlight's color. These do match and for $25 you can't go wrong. Installation was quick and easy. I do have my air dam removed and can see how it might be a pain in the rear installing them with it still in place though.

plug and play?

Hi there, first time on the forum posting. Great stuff on here! Tried to plug the 80W 1200 Lumen White PSX24W 2504 12276 Seoul Led 2014 bulbs in this morning into my 14' JK sport and had a heck of a time trying to get the bulb to clip in. After about 10 minutes trying every way to get it to clip in, no luck. Had to resort to stock until I try again tomorrow. Did anyone else have a tough time seating these bulbs into the factor housing?

Yes, I did. I could not get them clipped into place and wound up breaking the plastic tabs on the bottom of one bulb. Had to tape the wiring in place to keep it from bouncing around.

The ebay seller didn't want to hear about my problems. The led is nice and bright, but the build quality is pretty poor.

Let me try to clear up some confusion on the JK/U fog light bulbs.

The 2007-2009 model years use 9145 bulbs.

For 2010 and up, the bulb # is PSX24W. This is a Phillips proprietary bulb used by Chrysler. It is very difficult to find correct aftermarket replacements for them.

Here's where it get's tricky. Many of the PSX24W replacements being sold, are actually H16/5202/2504 bulbs sold as PSX24W. The H16 bulb is very similar and may fit, but many run into issues with broken tabs.

What I've found is that bulbs sold as 5202 compatible work better than the H16 and 2504 variant. That being said, here's what I went with and have zero issues. They fit without any tabs breaking.

5202 80W 16-LED High Power Cree Bulbs - GTR Lighting

Granted, they are pricier than those found on Amazon or ebay but it's worth not having to mess with tape or other ways of getting them to fit.
