Hey guys I have been doing a lot of research considering which lift to get for my JKU Rubicon. I am set on Rock Krawler and a 3.5 height. The two kits I am considering are the mid arm x factor kit and the long arm x factor kit. I understand the long arm kit will handle better off road, but I am also going to use the Jeep as my daily driver. My main concern is will the long arm handle as good as the mid arm on the road or will it handle better? I am also going to be running BFG AT in 35s. Thanks guys!
In theory, yes a Long Arm will ride and perform better than a Mid or Short Arm. The geometry on everything is better. Now, the Jk's are more of a Mid Arm from the factory and you will not as big of a advantage like you would on a short wheel base TJ that came with a "short" arm.
With the RK lifts on the market today, they ride great and are already a Mid Arm setup. Not a lot of people are willing to cut the suspension out of a brand new $40K JK to swap in a Long Arm that will ride perfectly well on a Mid Arm. Not to mention the cost involved as well.
Now, I have a JKU running a RK 3.5" XFactor Long Arm. It is my DD and drives and handles great! There is more to a Long Arm as well. The Mid Arms are a 4 link front and rear. You can do a 3 or a 4 link front or rear when you go LA with RK. Mine is a 3 link front and rear and love it!
Hey guys I have been doing even more research and can't seem to figure out how much more articulation the long arm will grant over the mid arm. Is there any figures you guys have of the rti ramp scores on the x factor mid arm and the x factor long arm?
That's because it wouldn't noticeably effect your articulation.
To change articulation you need to change your bump/limit setup and run longer shocks. Longer links are mainly a geometry thing. 3.5" and above run long arms for better geometry, below that stick with the mid arm setup.
Between Rock Krawler X factor midarm and metal cloak kit game changer on fox shocks I'm assuming the suspension articulation should be similar just geometry? That was the original two kits I was debating about.
I don't know specifics of either of those kits so I can't say for sure. You'd have to check the shock travel offered in each, and then try to math out how much bump stop you'll need to try to figure out how much articulation you'll get.
I did the RK 3.5" on an 07 jku and it rode and drove better than stock. I believe the bilsteins made the best choice as well. Best ride on A jeep I'd ever had.
I ordered a 3.5 X-Factor on 4/14/16 and I'm still waiting. But I had rather order from a vender that will give good support and reply to e-mails and have to wait then get it the next day and not have support.
