Anyone recently get these for the JKU? I got them and was under the assumption that the front bolt/housing issue that was brought up in the past/past installs had been rectified, apparently, it has not. Tried installing them in my 2015 JKU and the front bolt on the driver side did not have enough room to screw/fit on the factory stud. Should I return these? Would be a pain in the ass to ship back, but dont really want to keep something that is touted as bolt on accessory. Ive heard of people grinding the part, that is an option, never really did any fabrication work. Any other suggestions tips? Not sure where to go from here, I like the steps, but am dissapointed that they havent got this right by now. Needless to say, I wont be buying another SB product again.
I recently took these steps off my 2012 jku - they were on when I bought the Jeep used. I did notice that one side, I believe the driver's side, was re-drilled to enlarge the holes a bit. So, evidently that person had the same trouble as you.
Sorry to hear of your problem, that is aggravating, but it does look like some modest drilling or grinding will fix things, and that may be easier than returning them.
Why you take them off? You notice any body damage when you removed yours? Yea I may grind em. But if I do and mess them up, I won't be able to return them. Like I said, never done any fabrication work. Also, not even sure how much or where exactly to grind down. Any pics/ help of someone who did this would be very helpful!
There was nothing wrong with them. As a step, I thought they looked really great. But I am planning on rock crawling, and these steps have that lower bar and I found it contacts rocks too much. So I recently put on some Rock Hard sliders that still protect the Jeep, but leave much more room between them and the ground.
As for body damage, not really. There was some scratches to the pinch seam near the front on each side for whatever reason, but otherwise fine.
Any tips on how you did it? How much did you grind? How long it take? Did you have to grind both sides? I only attempted the driver side. Heard the passenger side fits without grinding. Did you experience this?
I put the 4 door model on about 9 or 10 months ago, no modification needed, but I did have to maneuver them a little, was a close fit
