Soft top questions

Just got a 2011 unlimited. The dealer went over the soft top operation but didn't sound very sure of himself and said a lot of things like " they just throw those in as extras."

So , my questions are these.
The jeep came with four straps, 2 of them are Velcro and I see and understand how to use those in securing the soft top. The other two straps are elastic loops with a snap on the end. I can't find them mentioned anywhere.
Does anyone know what these are for?

My second question is can the zip out side and rear panels be rolled up without hurting them? I would like to be able to put the top down while out and be able to put the panels in the back without them blowing out..

Thanks all,
Kev

Those elastic straps with the snaps are for rolling up your rear window, which I wouldn't recommend doing. As far as rolling your windows and bringing them with you, I would recommend geting one of these: Bestop 42810-09 - Bestop HOSS™ Window Storage Duffle in Charcoal For Bestop and Factory Zip Out Vinyl Windows - Quadratec

I just got this window roll. Same idea as daggo listed above, but it attaches above the top to allow you to keep the cargo area open.

Clover Patch 10-ST-9702 - Clover Patch Window Roll™ for 07-11 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door - Quadratec

The difference between the two is the way the window rolls. The Bestop can be attached top the rollbar on top as well. I keep it in the cargo area unless I need the space.

No problem. To be perfectly honest I went with the Bestop because I found it on CL for $25.

Wow, great price! I woulda gone that route as well. Mine was a gift, but I know my sister paid a lot more than $25!

yep, rolling up the rear window will either trash it in short order from dirt trapped inside, or trash it in short order from constantly having to clean the outside of it before you roll it up.

Here's a real life horror story from back when I had my CJ7. Back then the windows didn't come out. They were sew in to the soft top. The top didn't fold back either. You had to take the whole thing off. I used to roll up the rear window. You know how it gets in the fall when the days are warm and the nights are cool? I had the window up all day and when it cooled off I unrolled it and attempt to snap (yes they used snaps) it to the tail gate when I heard this sickening cracking sound. The entire window cracked open in the middle!

I fixed it with duct tape until I could afford a whole new top.

That is a funny story! Jeeps have come a long way in more ways than one.

Thank everyone, I played around with the top today and figured everything out. I found the snaps inside the back window, practiced with the sun rider position and added the duffle bag to my wish list... :-)
