I have a 2015 Sport, 10K miles, automatic, 100% stock and am very new to the Jeep world.
For the past several months, I hear a squeak/chirping noise coming from the rear undercarriage of my jeep, usually when going over a series of bumps (can be large or small). I've taken it into the dealership 3 times now. The first time they said it was the rear right sway bar link; they cleaned and torqued it but didn't fix it. Took it back and they could hear the noise when test driving but couldn't pin point where the noise was coming from. So, the next week a Chrysler engineer was at the dealership and they let me take it in so he could have a crack at it. Turns out he owns a 2014 Sport and he says that his makes the same noise but that it's just simply what that model does, so he didn't recommend any repairs. Took it out on a rougher dirt road today and the chirping/squeaking is simply unbearable; almost impossible to imagine Chrysler designed a vehicle to make obnoxious noises while driving it. I've read on these forums about this same problem. Some have said it's the sway bar link, control arm bearings, or emergency brake.
My question is a) has anyone with this model had any similar issues and b) since the dealership has basically said there is nothing they can/will do should I take it to a regular auto body shop and have them take a look at it even if I'm still under warranty? Thanks for the help!
Check torque on rear lower shock bolts. Our 2013 had squeak when the suspension cycled and found the shock bolts weren't torqued down and there was a lot of movement in the shock mounts. Tightened those bolts and no more squeak.
Thanks! I'll mention that when I take it back in. Wondering if I should take it to an independent dealer to get their opinion/suggestions before taking it back to the dealership. The dealership/Chrysler engineer basically said they can't recommend any service repairs at this time since some similar noises occur on similar models. But now the noise is worse than ever and imagine that trend will continue; seriously doubt it was engineered that way.
100% BS. Something isn't tight and probably loosed. Absolutely no noises from my 2015 JKU when it was stock or lifted. I think someone needs to get under there and retorque everything. Shock bolts tight? Also, when the car is cold grab your exhaust and shake it side to side, make sure its not causing the noise. Sometimes they hit against the heat shield, etc.
I have a 2013 Rubicon 4dr. My noise from the rear was with the door hinge. My son put a little grease on the latch plate and it cured my noise. Worth checking out.
I've got a 2013 that has clicked and clunked from underneath beginning a couple weeks after I bought it. Sounds like bad U-Joint but I've had a few shops look at it and although everybody can hear it, nobody knows what to do to fix it.
I've got a trusted shop who stated there is some "play in the suspension" but nothing they can do. Mine clicks/clunks when I stop, accelerate, go over bumps, turn, etc. I've always chocked it up to being "A Jeep Thing".
I think if we gave everybody truth serum and being 100% honest, most everybody would confess to some sort of issue with their Jeep whether it be rust, electronics, squeeking seat, speakers, noises underneath, engine issues, rattling, etc. Some may not fess up to it because we all love our Jeeps and are loathe to admit problems, but there's generally some sort of issue. It's all part of Jeep ownership.
While I click and clack down the trail and listen to my engine whine during idling, I still smile broadly. With the top and doors off, those noises are all the more prevalent but my smile is even bigger. Enjoy the Jeep and don't sweat the small stuff.
Slowstand305, I totally agree that it's BS, especially since the noises are getting more frequent and louder overall.
Bonesbrigade, I totally get what you're saying; I don't mind little quirks about a Jeep. But the noises I'm getting are pretty unbearable when even taking it on a dirt road. A chirp here or there...whatever, I don't mind. But when it's the overall ambient noise in the background as I'm driving off road, that's where I draw the line.

Mine squeaks too. I always assumed it was the zippers on my roll bar padding, they get quite loud. I've considered taping the tabs down to see if that's truly it. Never did but I might have to. My tailgate rattles sometimes but that's the latch loosening, so I tighten it down every few weeks, maybe I'll put loctite on one of these days.
2 things you may want to check are first the rear fenders, check and see if they are a little loose. I had one loose and it would rub against the body down by the rocker panel making a squeaky sound when it touches. My other squeak was from the rear brakes, not the pads themselves but the spring hardware that holds the pads in place in the caliper. Dirt and brake dust get in between the pads and spring retainers and create a squeak also. A little bit of brake grease or red anti-seize there should help take care of that.
i had my hood squeak/chirp after getting an oil change at the dealer....couldnt find it for a week until i jiggled the hood....opened and closed it again=gone
I had a squeak too. After much shaking (jumping on bumpers, etc.) I found it to be a bumper bolt. Who'd a thunk it? It could be almost anything. I didn't bring it back to the stealership. I've found most of them to be worthless when it comes to troubleshooting. When you find it, let them know they were full of s#$t.
I had the same sounds and this weekend took apart the rear brakes and greased everything up by the pads. I even took out each of the retainer clips greased he caliper bracket and the put them back and then greased over them as well as the pads tabs before putting it all back together. NO SQUEAKS!!
Find another Jeep dealer that's pretty close to u. This dealer here says they've heard the noise and don't suggest doing anything ab it so they're not going to do anything ab it even if u go back every other day. Maybe u could lay under the rear of the Jeep and have somebody rock it back n forth, bounce it up and down while you're down there trying to pin point the problem. My squeak from the rear was the frame side flag nut rubbing against the rear lower control arm, passenger side, where the LCA bolts to the frame right beside the gas tank. I bent it back some off of the control arm and I haven't heard any more squeaks
If it's just about the suspension cycling when you go over a bump when you hear the noise all they need to do is get a few techs to cycle the suspension while someone is down there looking around.
I had something similar and we had two guys on my front bumper pushing up and down while someone else was underneath looking for the problem. They found it.
Well to no avail my dealer says there is nothing they can do it's just a jeep thing. I cannot believe that it's normal. If anyone finds anything else out keep me posted. I'm gonna try to grease up the bushings this weekend.
Mine has been chirping when running over bumps for sometime. Started out small and only on larger bumps and now it is doing it quite often. I was thinking about having someone jump up and down on my rear bumper while I lay underneath my Jeep and find the source.
Have you checked the brakes? If the squeak/chirp is fairly consistent, get yourself on a poorly graded and/or bumpy dirt road. When it starts to squeak, lightly apply your brakes. What you are listening for is a change... It may go silent or it may intensify. If it intensifies, try a little more pressure on the brake pedal. Repeat until you are confident that the squeak/chirp is or isn't directly correlated to the brakes.
I discovered this after jumping up and down on bumpers failed to replicate the squeak/chirp. :banghead: Of course this makes sense as it is the slight contact of the brake pads and rotors while moving that causes the noise, not the actual movement of the suspension, etc.
Old post, but I think I may also be getting a squeak from my brakes. I haven't definitively tested it on a dirt road like you suggest, but my rear squeak over bumps does seem to go away if I'm on the brakes. And I've already torqued and then lubed (PB silicon spray) every rear suspension bolt, but I should've suspected it wasn't suspension because mine also doesn't make a peep when I shake the Jeep pretty good by bouncing on the bumpers and sliders.
So up next I guess I need to clean and lube the rear brakes. I installed pro grips less than a year ago / around 10k mi ago and lubed everything then. I wonder if it's common to need to lube the brakes at a more frequent interval than that? I have recently done a bit of water crossing and also get plenty of miles on dusty desert roads so I suppose that stuff is sort of harsh.
My squeak was coming from the rear undercarriage also. I found the noise coming from a bolt hitting the rear body panel. This bolt is located inside the coil spring on the upper side. If i remember right i cut maybe 2-3mm off of the bolt. After that i havent had any squeaking.
Pressure wash around the springs, maybe spray some dry lube on the top and bottom coils.
