Steering gear box install write up?

Does anyone know where to find a steering gear box install write up? I have been looking everywhere but have had no luck in finding one. Thanks!

Check the STICKIES on the top of JK Forum, also YouTube will most likely have something too!

Shouldn't be that hard. I know there's a few DIY hydro assist threads that involve removing the box.
Can't be more then
- disco drag link (already done lol)
- disco intermediate shaft to box
- 4 x 15mm bolts to the frame.

Got it, got a chance to get some more tools!

If anyone can help with a link to a write up for a jku it would be great.

Now if I can find a gear box without buying from the dealer that would be great, nobody has them in stock at all they can not even order em.

Unreal

There was a box on JKO. I think it's ported for hydro though. I see them for a couple hundred here and there.
I light have a link .... Hold up.

Thanks, they are all listed pretty cheap at the part stores, $215-$275 plus core charge but the problem is that they are so new that they never get cores to rebuild.

Well here's one of the threads I was thinking about.
http://www.jkowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80502
I scanned it quickly and did not see anything. There's also links to Doc's vids on youtube.

One thing I read. Lock your steering wheel from moving. Last thing you want is to mess up the clock spring. That's a $300-$400 fix.

The other question is about the steering wheel, I know that it was turned because of the break so I do not know how to set it so the clock spring isn't messed up....

So what do I do?

I sent my question before I saw your post.

I have no idea where the steering wheel was, what can I do?

Hope for the best. Don't turn your steering wheel whatever you do.

For future reference on bleeding the steering wheel:

Put the front up on jack stands
Fill your power steering reservoir
Turn the key to unlock the steering wheel but do not turn it on.
Rotate the steering wheel back and forth / full rotations.
Check the fluid and top it off
Repeat the rotations
Top off
Start car for a few moments
Turn off
Do the rotations again to make sure that the turns are smooth, if it is not, repeat the rotations and top offs until it is smooth.

From what I found this is done with the cap off and best of all it is a one man job.

If anything is incorrect please correct me, I am learning.

Crap I posted that process some time ago. The important part was not starting the jeep iirc
But yes .... Looks right.

For reference on the clock spring:

If you gently turn it you will feel it stop.
Go all the way right til it stops, then go left while counting rotations til it stops. Divide by 2

In my case that was 1.5

Them strap her down

Core is $200 but you get it back.
Pitman puller rent is $200 at autozone but they give $200 back when you return it

This is a good reason to get a brace, the only way home if this happens is a tow truck

Are there any link to threads on how to place the pitman arm?

Or anyone know where I should place it?
If the steering box is dead center what position should the pitman arm be?

Is the jeep pitman arm keyed for proper placement?

Never mind, it is.
I answered my own question
