Stock Headlamp Replacement

Greetings folks,

I bought my Wrangler Sahara about 3 weeks ago and am loving it. I have a one 45 minute commute to work on back roads and wanted to upgrade my lighting a bit with Hella H13 9008 55/60W blue xenon bulbs.

Now I was a mechanic some years ago but with out tearing the horn and power steering components out, how the heck do you get to them to replace.

On the passenger side, remove the air box (it just pulls up and out). The drivers side, remove the horn, or pull all the bolts holding the big black structure that holds the washer bottle and move it towards the motor. The other way would be to remove the grill then remove the whole globe.

Well as it turned out it is not very easy to move and or remove the components to gain access to the bulbs from the back side. On the 2009 JK the air box does not simply move up and out. And on the driver side the horn assembly is to0ugh to access and the there is also a hood switch that would need to be removed. It is far easier to remove the grill and access the bulbs from the front with the grill removed.

There are 8 plastic tabs that hold in the upper half of the grill. These are removed easily with a small flat tip screw driver. The bottom half of the grill is secured with simple push in tabs. Once the grill is removed the rest is easy, be sure to remove the screws the secure the bulb housing (4 hex screws) and not the aiming adjustment screws.

In all I now have the new bulbs in place.
