Stock Rubicon questions

I recently purchased a 08 rubicon. It is my first Jeep ever owned. I checked with the factory and got all the codes of what it came with Dana 44's 4.10 ratio but it didn't come equipped with front and rear differential locks or the sway bar disconnect. Is this a normal thing? Most Rubicon's I looked at all had these options. Also are those two options something relatively easy to add?

My 04' Rubi came with lockers. Can't remember if it had e-disco.

If it didn't come with front and rear lockers or a sway bar disconnect it isn't a Rubicon. The lockers should be fairly easy to add, the sway bar disconnect I'm not sure but I think it would be a major pain.

I think you should double check your front axle, I bet it's a D30 and you were taken advantage of. If I were you I'd look into returning that vehicle if you really want a Rubicon not to mention you probably paid too much for a non-Rubicon.

Sorry about being the bearer of bad news...

No, the e-disco started with the 2007 Rubicon. Actually, it first started with the 2005 Power Wagon......

All Rubicon's, starting from 2003 to current come with Dana 44s, with front and rear lockers as standard!

Are you sure that you have a Rubicon? Because some will just install the Decal, or a Rubicon hood. And then try to sell a non-Rubicon, as a Rubicon, (which is fraud).

The only other possibility would be, that a previous owner removed them, which really doesn't make any sense!!!

Just call your local Dealer, and give them your serial number. They will then tell you what model you have.

It sounds like somebody really screwed you........

an easy way to check would be to look on the drivers side of the front differential. if you see a plug and some wires coming out of the big pumpkin shaped housing, its a rubicon.

Check the axles for 2 plugs with wires than see if you have the switches like in the photo below. With Sway Bar and Axle Lock on them. All Rubis in the JK have E lockers, E disco, D 44 axles and a 4 to 1 T case.. If not it is not a rubi.

All Rubicons have that equipment. You most likely bought an upgraded Sport with Rubicon decals if your JK doesn't look like Sigs photo.

You can try and use this Vin decoder to check if it is Rubicon or not.

Yea I checked with the dealer before purchasing the vehicle and the vin matched with that of the factory! They have me the options report from the factory when the jeep was built on the line! Dana 44 HD front and rear axle, 4.10 real axle ratio, 4:1 rock-trac HD part time 4wd. Even has on here KCSS which is the code for radiant silver rubicon badge. But nothing about the front and rear differential or sway bar disconnect. But I definitely don't have that lower switch area. One reason I asked cause im a little confused

Also has DSES tru-lock front rear axles. Starting to think the switches were removed for some reason

Might have removed the switches and made them manual disco's. Have you checked that yet?
Also for the lockers... upgraded? First thing you need to do is to double check that you still have D44 front and rear... then inspect for any electical cables/connectors on the diff housing or an air line. No idea why someone would remove a locker entirely.... so make sure if you dont see anything going into it, that there isnt also a connector just missing the wiring.

If for some reason what is equipped on the vehicle is not what the VIN says you have, I would price check it with the options you DO have and then go back to the dealer and raise some hell.

I believe the lower switches in the photo are aftermarket...looks kinda like the Daystar switch panel. The switches you should have are the ones on the top in the photo...the ones marked Sway Bar and Axle Lock.

Thanks I will look into all of that!! I'm hoping it's just a wiring issue and nothing else! No reason for someone to down grade what the rubicon already has. But thanks again for the info

Changing out lockers and discos for aftermarket isn't downgrading. The PO was probably looking for options that weren't limited to 4L.

Electronic sway disconnect has been taken off. Has manual disconnect now. Not sure what brand it is but it is just a straight bar where the motor for the disconnect used to be. Is the a better option? Read that 08 were having trouble with the electronic disconnects. Still not sure on the lockers though

It is a used rig. I'd be under this thing in a skinnit. Make sure you have the correct axles and transfer case under there. it is possible a highly unscrupulous PO swapped/sold off the Rubi parts before trading it.

In Sigs pic, the switches that you should have are between the power outlets. Sway Bar and Axle Lock are the 2 you should see.

Well I know the front and rear axles are both the Dana 44 based on the size and shape of the housing but the transfer case will have to get checked by the dealership cause I don't know where to begin or what to look for with it!

So do the axles have the electronics/plugs?

Switching to manual disco's is fine. Lots do it simply because the motor fails in the e-discos. Just means unhooking them when you are airing down. Id be much more worried about the transfer case and the lockers than anything else.

In all honesty though... with the switches being missing... I am guessing that is a sport that had the D44's installed in the rear but that front looks like a D30.

The rock rails are gone too. While that's not that big of a deal on its own, it's another red flag.

Bama, take a pic of the other side of the pumpkins. It will show the electrical connector for the e-locker. Also, if you feel game, you can crawl under it and find the tag on the diff. It will either say 241 (base model) or 2410R (rubicon).

The switches moved with the interior design change in '11. Up until that model year the switches were in the bank at the bottom of the center section. From'11 on they have been located on the driver's left above the speaker.
