I think it's feasible but you only have about 15" of useable space between the rear window and the floor. You would also want to build for brackets so you can keep the vents working. I don't think there is enough space to use bolts and nylon nuts so I would use some serious Loctite on whatever you use. Then you have the added weight on the hinges. TereFlex.
You could install a JK tailgate panel (fold down style), then hook the subwoofer to it via MOLLE webbing (actually PALS webbing, but most folks call it MOLLE).
A fellow Jeeper named Alan designs, builds, and sells one in the right dimensions you need. Check out his eBay site: alanjk427 on eBay. You could also mount it to the rear overhead kit Alan sells.
Good luck and please post photos when you complete the install.
I've seen people mount them on the tailgate using angle iron. U mount the angle iron near the bottom of tailgate then mount box on it. A couple of small brackets to hold the top in place.
I had that similar idea as well buy wondered how clean it would look. bit of OCD on my end maybe. Going to the audio shop tomorrow to brainstorm and get raped in charges.
If u paint all the brackets black u probably won't notice them. The top brackets I would make it so all that is seen is where they go onto the box. U won't see the bottom one.
Put some legs on it and make in down firing. It would really not be visible from the outside that way.
