Ticking sound coming from engine on a new vehicle

Hello my name is Danny I just purchased a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2013 and after driving it for only two days I heard a ticking sound coming from the engine. I immediately took it to the dealership and after they looked at it they are telling me they need to change the lifters. How concerned should I be . The Jeep is brand new with 40 miles on it.

I love the Jeep Wrangler and always wanted to own one and now that I finally have one I am a bit concerned about this ticking sound and whether not I should return the vehicle back to the dealership. I am afraid that I am making a emotional decision on it because I love this vehicle so much but I will welcome anyone's advice.

Can someone please help me, Is this a major problem and should I return the Jeep back to the dealership ?

Thank you

Have you had any issues with your swing gate rattling

I would say make the dealership fix it for free since you had it for so little

Hopefully you're not someone with this issue. Update on ticking Pentastar..new head... This was a problem with some of the 2012's that spilled over to some early built 2013's. I would have thought by now the early 2013's were all sold out, unless yours was a leftover and is an early build 2013. But they sell like hotcakes so an early build 2013 leftover makes me wonder? It's a very long thread but it contains a lot of good information. Hopefully it's just the lifters.

There might not be a problem. Just be aware that you do get a clicking sound in the engine compartment from the fuel injectors. What did they have to "fix" 3X?

Thanks for all the responses. Turns out the lifters was the problem and dealer changed 12 lifters. They stated there was only 1 lifter damaged but they went ahead and replaced 12. I just drove off with the vehicle several hours ago and seems to drive fine now. No ticking sound but still a bit a concerned. Good thing is its noted with them and I have 100000 miles of warranty on the engine and then after a life time warranty with dealer as long as I have all maintenance done through them. Bad news they changed 12 lifters....Anyone would be a bit concerned.

For those who think this is an attempt to bash Jeep Wranglers Im sure if It happened to them they would feel and have the same concerns. I'm not trying to bash Jeep Wranglers I think this is one of the greatest vehicles ever made and I would never try to tarnish their reputation. You can't blame the entire bunch for one bad apple, it happens..

It takes a true Jeep Wrangler Fan / Owner to go through what I just did and still Love it enough to keep it and drive it home...

I hope not.. lots of warranty left anyway. They have adjusted the swing gate and glass hatch 3 times scince april. Nothing damaged just a lot of noisey rattling and trips to the dealer
