Tie Bar

I've been having problems with the steering. The first thing I noticed was that I could move the tie bar up and down freely with ease. I was also able to do the same with the drag link.
It is a 2012 Sport that I bought that already had a lift.

Is it normal for these to be able to move up and down so easily? If not what could be the problem?

The lift was already installed when I bought it so I'm not sure about the caster angle.

I am having trouble with the jeep going from a slight shimmy to an out right wobble if I hit a bad spot in the road. I checked the track bar and it is tight and the connections were not hollowed out. I read the post about Death Wobble and diagnosing it and went through the steps. I'm at a lost right now.

Went through the steps again to diagnosing DW. Took the the track bar completely off to inspect it. Holes were not wallowed out so I re-connected and re-torqued it. I also replaced the steering stabilizer as the one that was on it look as though it was shot. It looked liked it had an oily substance leaking.

So far I have not had any troubles. If it occurs again sometime soon I may have the tires balanced. As I said in the original post I bought my 2012 used so I knew that I was going to have to do some maintenance.

Thanks for your help.

Give us pictures of front end, also what size bolt is in the trackbar? I had the same issue and sounds like the same setup and my trackbar had a 12mm in it the first time and the second time it came loose. And it's a nasty wobble if you hit a bump right lol

If your balljoints and tracbar are good the shimmy you are experiencing is most likely unbalanced tires especially if it happens at a certain speed interval. Pretty easy fix to get them rebalanced

Op
Go put a 9/16 shouldered fine thread bolt in your axle side trac bar bracket and let us know if your still getting wobbles and report back. It won't cost you much time or money. Do this just so every person that buys a new jk doesn't start replacing all their factory bolts lol. Again the whole point of the 9/16 shouldered bolt is to give you some leeway in case your tracbar bolt loosens. It won't rattle around and act like a saw Ovaling out your bracket like a stock bolt will do. If the stock bolt is torqued properly and the bracket is in good shape it is fine and is not the source of your problem

Not sure what your trying to get at with the first part of your post but once again if the bracket is not ovaled with the stock or larger bolt and torqued to spec no you will not get any movement. The only movement will be in the bushing when your suspension articulates which is normal. Seeing how this has turned into a pissing match with the only thing you care about is being "right" and not helping the op with his actual problem then ok you are right. A 9/16 bolt will fix all the op's wobble problems lol. Happy? Like I said a few post above to the op go install a 9/16 bolt and see if it fixes your issue and report back. Feel free to respond with another childish rant with those big scary capital letters

This isn't a pissing match, some people will read this and they will like your insults and think with that confidence he has to be right, what you said above is right, stock or larger is fine torqued but not smaller, this is the only post were you specified rather then argue an invalid point with me, again the only guy looking at this setup stated he had a smaller then stock bolt in his trackbar.

So let's break this down, op if you do in fact have a 12mm in the trackbar it is likely your problem.

If it's a 14mm or above it is likely not the problem. Let us know what you find.

Monte revert back to the original post by you responding to me.....I have to insure proper info to people who are less educated in this field, so when you called me wrong on a 12mm you in fact were wrong that's all I was saying, I don't want people thinking a smaller bolt with proper torque will work, because it won't.
