Tow Package

Does ordering the tow package for a Wrangler Sport S have an impact on the suspension provided? Thanx

Nope. It just adds the receiver hitch and necessary wiring. It is actually cheaper to buy the receiver hitch and do a DIY installation.

Tow Package

Thanx 2five22. I'm 75 years old and like the Willys edition but I don't think I can stand up to the "performance suspension". So my plan is to get a Sport and option it up to the Willys minus the Performance Suspension. I found an aftermarket black grill that I can use to get the look. I wanted to make sure that getting the Tow Package doesn't up the suspension automatically. I'm also finding that doing it my way is more expensive than the Willys with the same options. Thanx again

This thread will give you additional info. regarding JK springs. There is no set formula for which spring rates that you will have: How can these spring #'s be right?? 4 dr Rubi vs 2 dr Sport

My tow package was only a hitch, and a wiring harness, and nothing else.

Only difference between Sport and Rubicon/Willys as far as suspension is the shocks. If you want the Willys, go for it!

I thought the stock sport had 3:21 gears while the tow package included an upgrade to 3:73 gears.

Am I mistaken?

Max tow package includes hitch and 3.73 upgrade. Tow package includes just hitch. You need 3.73s to tow 3500 lbs vs 2000 lbs on the 4 door.

Maybe go the other way then. Get the Willy's and remove the shocks and springs for something smoother. I am sure the forum would be happy to assist in a recommendation

Tow package vs Max tow package

My 2015 Wrangler Sahara came in which I ordered with Max Tow package. The window sticker said the following: 3:73 front and rear axle ratio, class 2 receiver hitch and trailer tow with 4 pin connector wiring Price $745.00
The 2015 Wrangler Sahara sitting next to mine had only Tow Package, not Max Tow Package, and the window sticker said the exact same thing 3:73 front and rear axle ratio, class 2 receiver hitch and trailer tow with 4 pin connector wiring Price $295.00

So I called Jeep and questioned the difference in price. After 2 days I got an email from them saying they had found a misprint in the Monroney (window) stickers on 2015 wranglers equipped with Tow Package and that the Tow Package "does not" include the 3:73 gears, only the hitch and wiring. If you want 3:73 gears you buy the Max Tow package $745.00 or you can buy the Tow Package $295.00 and buy the 3:73 gears $495.00 separate. The reason for this Tow Package is it allows the person wanting 3:21 gears to get a Tow Package.

So if you are looking at 2015 Sport or Sahara and you order Tow Package you are getting 3:21 gears. If you order Max Tow Package you are getting 3:73 gears.

I am only addressing Sport and Sahara Wranglers. I don't know about Rubicons because they have different gearing.

As far as suspension, there is no mention of any suspension changes for either tow packages.

Im installing a rear hitch receiver when it gets in on tuesday.

Questipn, how many people have a front hitch receiver, and what are the real world pros/cons of a front receiver?

Great spot for a cooler basket or rod holder. If correctly mounted a sled winch mint can go in with the option for removal to reduce weight when not in use. Can't honestly name any cons. Perhaps a reduction in approach and possibility of catching on a climb?

Also important to note that the max tow not only have 3.73 gears but also limited slip rear end

Jelli79, are you sure? I have a 2014 JKUR with "Max Tow" package and suspect (but have not verified) that is only has the Rubicon locker and not a factory limited slip differential.

I don't believe this is correct. My 2013 had max tow and no LSD.

All 2012+ autos have the trans cooler.

Max tow is hitch, wiring & gears only.

I think the tow package includes 3.73 gears, defiantly worth the price.

Hmm, doesn't the Max Tow package include a "larger" tranny cooler? I was told once, but didn't find any info... probably not... Thx.

MAX tow has 3.73, tow does not.

They're all the same cooler.

Limited Slip is an option from the factory. Anyone who has it paid extra for it. You can order lsd on 3.21 or 3.73.
