Please Help, I'm having a problem trying to make my Jeep a RV Towed Vehicle. I purchased the "Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness" Mopar Part # 82211156AB and just tryed to install it into my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2 door. I followed the instructions but the connector under the glove box is smaller than the Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness making it impossible to connect. Is there an adapter that I need or is this the wrong part for my Jeep? Please advise since I've already installed the Wiring Harness through the firewall and engine compartment according to the instructions but can't complete because of this issue.

There is a post on Amazon where someone said they contacted Jeep and was told that harness does not fit the 12 and 13 because those connect in the engine compartment. Don't know if that is correct or not. Maybe try calling one of the dealers or Jeep.

Thanks J21, checked the info on Amazon and it says that 2012 and 2013 need to connect in the engine compartment but was unclear if he was successfull. If the info is correct its pretty sad that MOPAR can't update there instructions when you spend more money to try and stay with OEM parts. I had to remove my fender and cut a hole in the firewall in accordance with there incorrect instructions. Have not un-installed and moved cable untill I can get confirmation from MOPAR that it does supposed to be installed in the engine compartment. I do appreciate the info J21.

To hbski, I've got the instructions saying it should fit but there is no way the connectors will match up unless MOPAR makes adapter of some sort. Appreciate your post.

No problem. I've got the same harness for my 2014 that I got when purchased. probably won't install it for another couple months though....now concerned if it doesn't actually fit.

I just purchased this harness also. I have a 2014 JKU and have not started the install yet. I did a little research and I think the following information will be helpful:

From IRV2:
"Based on my recent learnings from installing a Mopar wiring harness in my jeep, I thought I'd post them in an effort to help others.
--The Mopar P/N is 82211156AB.
--It will fit newer Jeeps. I installed mine in a 2013 Wrangler.
--The directions are HORRIBLE! Not a single word, just pics!
--There are 2 connectors in the footwell. The one you can see/touch IS THE WRONG ONE! The correct connector is above and behind this one. It took a small, skinny Chrysler tech to find it for me.... I'm neither.
--ThIS WIRING HARNESS REQUIRES A SEPARATE 12v SUPPLY FROM THE COACH TO WORK!! This power is supplied by the #4 'pin' in a 7 pin connector. There is absolutely no reference to this in anything I could find from Chrysler. "

Hope this helps
David

Great info David, not real clear on how to hook up the power from the #4 pin. I assume that the 7 pin connector is on the RV side but where it goes on the jeep side is the question. The Wiring Harness comes with a removable round 7 pin to rectangle 4 pin cable to connect the RV to the Jeep when towing. I'll keep diging but really great posts so far. It amazes me of what we did before the Internet and FORUMS lke this.

OK Guys, SUCCESS!!!!

I was finally able to get back to installing the Wire Harness and was able to get to the correct connector. In a nut shell works great, just a pain in the a!@ to get it connected especially if you are 52, overweight, and bad back to boot. The first connector you come to is definitely the incorrect one but I had to unplug it to get to the one above it. It is extremely tight but you can get to it by turning and manipulating it to get the harness connected. Once connected putting everything back is fairly straight forward and easier now that you see how everything was installed. Tested on my Thor 32ft Class A and works as expected by lighting only the tail running, turn, break, and emergency lights. Haven’t tried backup lights but since you shouldn’t backup when towing any vehicle 4 down not to worried about it but will check on a upcoming trip I’m taking. So great full for all who added to my thread and hope this will help other forum members in the future.

I just installed this harness yesterday and just got around to testing it today and I can not get it to work. I assume that I got the connectors together properly as the locks snapped in place and everything works fine on the Jeep. When I connect it to the motor home I get no lights on the jeep. I checked all the terminals on the motor home including the 12V pin and all tests fine. My wireless light set also works fine when connected so I have narrowed it down to the harness setup on the Jeep. There are 5 pins on the Jeep harness, red +12V, black -ground, brown tail lights, yellow left turn and green right turn. So I did a little trouble shooting by hooking up the 12V and ground pins to a battery. When I apply 12V to either signal light pin...nothing. When I apply 12V to the tail light pin I can hear what sounds like a relay click in the vicinity of the kick panel where the connections are but no lights. That is where I am right now....any ideas or suggestions much appreciated :)

Binnie,
sorry for late reply haven't been on-line for a while, the only thing that might be happening is that the power comes from the RV side and you have to have it started for the tail lights to work on your Jeep. I had similar experience thinking lights were malfunctioning but it was because of engine not started. I have a 2013 Thor Daybreak Class A wired by the OEM. If you think about it this makes since because you don't want to drain your batteries on the RV. One other point or pleasant discovery was that i didn't have to leave key in ignition on in the jeep to unlock position since the steering doesn't lock like most automatic safety/security autos. I'm very pleased with my 2013 Sahara for being the perfect 4 down Towed vehicle as of to date.

Not to hijack but for anybody reading this who hasn't bought the harness yet, the one from cooltech works perfect and installs in about 15 min (took me 30 but I used fishtape and ran it in the frame vs tying to the frame as in the instructions). Just curious as to the Chrysler part, can't you get help from dealer or call the jeep number in the manual?

I used the Chrysler part on my 2013 for one reason: when talking to the local dealer I was told any electrical problem I might have would not be covered under warranty if I used the Cooltech part. Given the amout of electronics in the JK, I wasn't about to risk that and spent twice as much to stay with Mopar.

For me, towing 4 down eliminates the need for a trailer which takes up space when staying at RV campgrounds. It's also much easier and faster to connect/disconnect vs. having to attach trailer, secure vehicle to trailer, etc.

I guess the downside of towing 4 down would be causing unnecessary wear and tear to the vehicle. And if you set the ignition in the "on" position, it will log miles on your odometer, which happened to me (although I never thought that was possible).

I just am getting around to installing this harness in my 2013 JKUR. I took the fender and inner liner off and - to my surprise see two large connectors outside of the body but behind the liner. They are not shown on the instructions, they even are in the way of drilling the grommet hole to get to the footwell. Any updates?

Does anyone know if there were any changes to this part ( "Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness" Mopar Part # 82211156AB) over the years? I see a bunch of them for sale on Ebay with the same part number but some say it is only for 07-11 some say it is for 07-14 and of course the one listed for 2015 is the most expenses and the highest shipping cost.

I had dealer install the Mopar RV tow wiring kit. When I tested it today the third brake light (above spare tire) does not illuminate. It also appears the taillights are not as bright as when they are powered by the Jeep alone.
Looking for someone that has this Mopar wiring kit installed to see if the third brake light should be working.
Thanks

I have this kit on my 2015 JKU and it works great, installed it myself. Connectors are very tight but if you are trying to plug this in the correct place it works great, there are a few other places it looks like it may go, in mine it was high on the sidewall and difficult to snap tight. Works perfect.
