Towing Package

Contacted the Jeep parts dept. asking the price of the stock towing package. The hitch was not all that expensive but the wiring harness just as much. Just a little insight. The real question is why is the towing package hitch only have a rating of 3500 lbs. when the manual says the unlimited has a towing capacity of just over 7900 lbs ? The tongue weight is the same 350 lbs. I want to have factory equipment but they do not make it . I checked after market towing packages and they were not all that much better. Who makes a towing package that fits a 1011 Unlimited sport that has the same capacity as the vehicle ? I just want to be able to tow a decent size RV pull me along. !!!

Are you SURE the Unlimited has a towing capacity that high?
According to Jeep, it is only 3,500.

It's 3500 lbs. are you looking at the combined gross vehicle weight? I pull a 2800lb RV with mine. Had to stay under the 3500lb rating.

A jeep is not a tow pig. If you want to tow big, buy a tow pig.

It's 3500, and don't buy the parts from the dealer. You can get the hitch, the wiring, and a rubber Jeep plug from Quadratec for $80.

The Gross Combined Weight Rating (GWCR) is the maximum weight of the Jeep plus the trailer plus everything in both of them, including you and the family.

The maximum tow rating (Max GTW) is the maximum trailer weight you can pull and assumes that only the driver and no passengers or cargo are in the Jeep.
