Question traction control vs factory lsd unit

I'm close to buying an "07 w/traction control. I've had several cherokee's in the past that I ordered w/factory lsd unit and it worked very well. Hard core wheeler I'm not but I hunt and fish, play around in the snow and have been a 4wheeler for many yrs. I set my vehicles up w/tires, lights etc and when I purchase new, I go for the lsd option.
Is TC as good as LSD? If a vehicle has a factory LSD, do they still put a tag on the rear diff?

^ ok i just realized you said cherokee. this is a wrangler forum you will need to find a cherokee forum if that is really what you need help with. if you meant a wrangler then read on

for sure go with the lsd. the tc is ok and helps at times but it is in no way a good substitute for a lsd. if its an x with the "sport" package or a sahara then it most likely has the lsd if it is just a basic x then it for sure dosnt have the lsd. btw the x "sport" has fog lights, tow hooks, rubi rims, etc to make it different from the basic x.

It's an "07 Wrangler, it's an X but I don't know if it's a sport. If it is the X w/the sport package are you saying that he would come w/the LSD. Would the rear diff. have a tag on it indicating an LSD?
Thanks for the input.

ya, traction control sucks if you ask me, it is not like having a limited slip rear end. i have no expereince with the new wranglers, but with all the vehicles i drive and work on that is where i make my opinion. basically traction control works with the abs system, and the computer decides to make changes based on what it thinks by getting info from the wheel speed sensors and throttle position. it will automatically apply different brakes through the abs system to correct situations, and some vehicles that are drive by wire now will even change the throttle regardless of what you're doing. i hate it, i wanna be in control and i can correct my own vehicle when i need to. in my expereince traction control along with abs works great for people that suck at driving. you basically just hit the gas and the brake and let the computer do the rest. i hate it. and when you have someone that knows what they're doing it makes things worse, definately would take some getting used to.

good ole mehcanical limited slip.....good.

Badfish, I just re-checked it, there is no Sport markings but it does have fog lights, tow hooks and the optional wheels. The option list didn't indicate an LSD.

'07 to '09 is an X. Sport replaces the X for 2010. There is no X sport package. LSD is a factory option. ESP is your traction control which is standard. If you have LSD it will be listed on your sticker as an option. If you have LSD, you have ESP as well since it is standard.

The dealer doesn't list an LSD but that's not unusual. I read somewhere that you can obtain the original info. from chrysler but only if your the registered owner. Other 4wd's that I owned if it had an LSD in the rear, a tag would be on the diff. Is this true on the new Jeep's?
I'm trying to have as much info. as possible when I go head to head w/the salesperson. My experiences in the past have shown that they aren't as knowledgeable as they should be.

LSDs wear out. Haven't heard anything overly glowing about the LSD Jeep puts in.
