UConnect Question

My iPhone 5 connects fine to the UConnect in my 2010 Wrangler JK 4 Door but I can't get my music to play through it, I can only get calls, I have the navigation system in it as well, so is it anyone else experiencing this problem or who could help me fixed/figure this out. Thanks

What navigation unit do you have? I've got a 430N and my iphone plays music over bluetooth flawlessly. I don't have to do anything special to do it, just press media and the choose Aux. That said, I prefer playing over USB so I can search by artist or playlist, etc without ever touching my phone. The bluetooth is nice because I don't even have to take it out of my pocket though.

Is this similar to the one you have or can help me with?

It looks similar to mine, but different. What do you have in the USB port? Have you tried with whatever that is disconnected? I don't keep anything plugged in to mine.

X2- and give it plenty of time to start picking up the signal on the first try. Mine took 2+ minutes the first time and even "skipped" a little but now it picks up within 10 secs and plays perfectly. Going to look into how to run music thru the USB though as it would be nice to scroll thru the songs/playlists on the unit. Just not sure how to do that (formatting) yet.

In my USB I just have a standard car charger and I have to use an auxiliary cord to play my music, I will try to pair again to see it has to catch but the fact that I can talk easily but not play music seems kind of odd

From Installing Uconnect in my wife's Patriot last week, I found out that connecting an Ipod (don't know if it's the same with an Iphone) requires a special cable that connects to the Uconnect module behind the dash.

Being an Android guy, it's not an issue. I've never been much of an Apple fan. Just my opinion on that though. No offense to those that have Jobs.

BT streaming audio did not become a supported feature until 2011. Can you tell me if the iPod cable is a short pigtail that plugs into a connector or is it a USB connector that the Apple docking cable plugs into?

Are you using USB between the seat? I heard from other writer, USB on head unit only transfer to music to Hard drive and charge phones only and use armrest to to play music from iPod/phone and USB thumb drive.

ok if you search this forum there is an update that I had to do to get my iphone 5 to play music, my ipod would play right away, and the iphone was a crapshoot sometimes it would sometimes it would not, I downloaded the update put it on a usb stick and inserted the stick in the center console usb drive.

no problems since, and the bt plays clear when the phone screen is on, previously it was glitchy

1) The above Uconnect SW update is only for 2011 vehicles, it took care of the issue where iPods would not play when connected to the Apple docking cable connected to the Uconnect remote mounted USB connector either in the center console or glovebox. When an iPod / IPhone was connected to the cable, Uconnect would try to read the device and the "error occurred" would be displayed on the radio. That update is also only for the RES, REQ, RBZ & RHB radios. On the lower right hand corner of the radio is a 3 digit code, what is your code?

2) Can you explain how you're attempting to get the phone's music to play thru Uconnect? Are you trying to play thru the lightening cable or trying to stream it thru BT?

3) Is the cable that you're trying to connect to the IPhone 5 a short factory cable that attaches to a non USB connector in the center console / glovebox?

4) If you're trying to connect the lightening cable to the USB connector on the face of the radio, it won't work. That USB is for downloading (pictures & music files to the radios HD) or playing music from a Thumb drive.

I've never tried, but I don't see any reason a usb cable in the front of the unit wouldn't work for streaming. I'll try it when I go to breakfast with my brother today.

Can you tell us which radio you have? This will help to offer any further help.
If you have the RHB radio and no USB connector in the center console (if Uconnect is factory installed) or in the glovebox (if installed by the dealer) then your module is an earlier unit which does not support BT streaming audio. It will only play music from the phone if it's connected to the Chrysler iPod/ IPhone cable, PN 82212001 and will be controlled thru the phone / iPod only.
I asked about the USB connector to fully verify that your system is does not support BTSA.

The radios USB connector does not play media from the Apple products. The radio does not support the Apple profiles. They are supported only thru Uconnect. When an Apple product is plugged into the radio USB connect, it will only charge.

You need to install the Apple interface cable. I put one in my 09 JK to play my ipod. They are available at your dealership but cheaper on ebay. You will need to remove the radio as the cable plugs into the rear of the unit and is designed to be run to the glovebox where you will need to attach your phone. This cable will give you full control of your music through the radio and will charge it as well.

Standby ... you may be SOL. The cable I'm thinking of is for the older style apple devices. You will have to check if it available with the new connector or if there is an adapter available.

This information will totally depend on which radio they have. The 4 radios that I listed do not have a USB connector on the back of the radios and only 2 of them have USB connectors on the radio faceplate. Your radio is probably an RER or RHR which do have the USB connectors on them.
In order to offer the correct help, the radio model is really needed otherwise he's getting confused info.

How can I tell which kind of radio it is bc I don't see any numbers on it to identify one of the four models it could be (well really down to 2 models because if has an USB on the side panel of the face of the radio) I'll see if it shows when I try to put a CD in and the face plate let's down bc the picture showed earlier in this post doesn't show any numbers Correct?

Look on the bottom right of your radio faceplate. You should see 3 letters identifying your model n

My apologies for posting w/o pulling all the info together. The cable I was refering to is the iPod interface cable available through MOPAR p/n 82211853. This cable is for the RER radio and allows you to control an iPod using the radio. As I posted earlier though, this cable has the old style Apple connector so it would not work with an iPhone 5 with the new smaller connector. I don't specifically recall if this cable uses a usb connector on the rear of the radio or if it is some other plug type, I am thinking it was a different plug type, otherwise I would have tried the cable that came with my iPod instead of buying a $70+ MOPAR cable.

Definitely not about to buy that part, I just to stream my music through the Bluetooth that's all! And for some odd reason it seems as though the only way I can play my music is via the aux cable, I tried repairing it today and still only got calls and no music, I pressed the aux button on the touch screen and nothing happened as well, unhooked all the cords just to make sure it wasn't playing due to the headphone jack being in use and still nothing, it would seem that it would be an easy solution since I can actually talk via my Bluetooth in my jeep but I think I'm stomped on this one.

Ok, that's helpful. Your radio has Uconnect built into the radio, this is why the model # of the radio was needed. Uconnect is built by 3 different suppliers and each have their own SW versions and are not interchangeable.
There is a radio SW update for Apple compatibility issues and the Harman radios. Check the link below to see if your VIN # qualifies for this update:

Owners - Quality - Media Center 730N (RER)

If not, then do a search for 730N SW updates from SOX. He's on a few different forums and has updates availabe and a good amount of knowledge with the 730 / 730N radios. My knowledge is more on the radios that I mentioned earlier in this thread. I'm not sure if the Harman radios supported BTSA prior to 2011 like the other radios.

an example of his threads:

What version of Application Software did your RHR 730N come with? - Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum

No apologies needed and sorry if I sounded like a jerk. It's just that there are several different radio MFG's as well as suppliers for the Uconnect system and they all don't work the same.

After searching high and low I found on an apple thread that the 730n RER does not allow you to stream music through the Bluetooth but the 730n RHR will allow you stream via Bluetooth, I have the 1st of those two so I guess it's good old aux cable for me, bc I'm not about to pay for all the bells and whistles pieces just to stream via Bluetooth, I do appreciate you guys for all the help though!
