VDP End Cap Install

I'm curious if anyone has tried using epoxy to connect the VDP end caps to their stock bumper when doing the install instead of the supplied plastic plugs or bolts? I'm thinking if I could use epoxy, then silicone the seam and spray the whole thing with bed liner, it would look like one solid piece. Any thoughts on this idea?

I'd think it would work. You might want to spend some time testing various types of epoxy to make sure you get good adhesion. Might also want to scuff up where your epoxying.

Be careful of silly seal, make sure it's paintable ;-o

Many glues will not bond certain types of plastic so finding a glue that works may be a problem. Paint won't stick to silicone sealer. You may be able to use another sealer that is paintable and sticks to plastic. Spray on bedliner also does not stick well to some types of plastic.

If you figure it all out let us know what you used. I am looking at the VDP end caps too.

^^^^^This. Even the glues and epoxies specifically designed for plastics rarely hold.

Lurk around Craigslist if you're interested in keeping the front bumper. You can get takeoffs pretty cheap. Or use this as an opportunity to get the bumper you REALLY want.

OK, an addendum to my initial thought on this. I've used Shoe Goo for years to build up the toes on my sons cleats for "pitchers toe". Works great for that and also adheres very well to vinyl and rubber.

I installed VDP end caps this weekend to my front bumper and decided to run a thick bead of Shoe Goo between the bumper and caps, near the same line that the clips fit. The stuff never hardens, so it remains flexible, and should give it some extra support. I wouldn't trust it exclusively to attach the end caps to the bumper, but think it will be great in addition to the clips to providing a solid mating between the two parts.
