Weigh in please!

I am in the market for a John Boat w/trailer and want to know about towing with the 08 Unlimited. I have the factory tow package but really don't know anything about towing capacities, tongue weights, and all that jazz.

Skool me!

Tow capacity on all Jk's is 2000 lbs. Don't have a clue about tongue weight or anything else.

Your JK must be the sissy model at only 2000. Mine has a limit of 3500. I'm guessing that yours is a two door at that weight limit? That was one of the things that I took a serious look at when buying because I like camping and was wondering how much camping I could pull behind me. The Liberty has a whopping 5000 lb capacity. That got a serious looksee from me during my shopping. Ended up with an 08 Rubi 4dr 6sp. Haven't looked back. I have pulled 3000 with it. In hilly terrain I get 9MPG. Best was about 11MPG pulling that trailer. The tongue weight is usually 10% of the trailer weight rating. I believe on the JK that would be 350 lbs. I'd have to look that one up. I'm pretty certain about the 3500 though without looking that up.

i have no idea about the 2000lbs or 3500lbs but ia am pretty sure jkn is right about the tonque weight being 10% of total wieght. i know my tundra has a 5000lb load capacity and a 500lb tonque wieght, 10%.

two doors are at 2000, with a 300 pound tongue weight, IIRC. then the 4 doors are rated at the 3500, but not sure about tongue weight on it.

Slightly heavier springs, 3:73 gear ratio and the receiver hitch.. (except on the Rubi which already comes with heavier springs and 4:10 gears)

Basically f you have a 4 door with 3:73 or lower gears, you are good to 3500.

I stand corrected. 2 door is 2k and 4 door is 3.5k according to Jeep website. I had the 2 door numbers in my head because I have been looking into trading my Unlimited Sahara in on a 2 door Rubi.
