My wife and I had to do some errands this morning and when we went out into the garage to get in our Jeep the doors were locked. Now this was strange because the key was in the ignition which I always leave there when the Jeep is in the garage. I got the other key fob and discovered the remote locks would not work. I managed to open the door with the key. I got in and turned the key and everything was dead, not even an indicator light. The first thing that come to mind was that somehow I must have left something on that completely killed the battery. I called Good Sam's and a service guy came 30 minutes later. He got out his booster pack and tried starting the Jeep. Still no power to anything. He tried a couple of other things and still nothing. He then called the Jeep dealer and they told him that it sounded like the security system somehow immobilized it. They told him to try a couple of things but still nothing worked. He ended up calling a flat bed to take it to the dealer. Of course he could not get the transfer case in neutral so he ended up putting the rear wheels on a dolly so he could pull it out of the garage. That was three hours ago and I just got a call from the dealer telling me to come out and pick up another vehicle as they have to order some parts. That is darn discouraging with only 300 km on the vehicle...haven't even used the first tank of fuel.:beerme:
That really is discouraging,m8. You're completely entitled to the above rant.
If it's any consolation, I had a similar problem with a BMW I owned: Had yo have it towed to the dealership with only 700miles on it. However, after it was fixed,it proved to be the most reliable vehicle I ever owned all the way up to 62k miles. I wish you the same luck with your Jeep.
I will know more later this afternoon after I get out to the dealer but it is my understanding that it is an electronic component that they need to replace.
The service manager just called and asked me to bring out the second key fob as they will need it for reprogramming. Apparently the problem originated with the remote start module and they need to replace that along with another component that is tied into it which I guess must be whatever runs the security system. It apparently runs fine with both of those systems disabled so he says they are confident they have found the problem and have been reassured by a factory tech. It is still disconcerting to me. He told me that most defective electronic devices will fail in their early life if they are defective so I hope he is right.
This has been my experience as well. It goes for most things, but especially electronics. Back in my I.T. days, we always did a "burn in" on new components, mainly to weed out defects before we put them into service.
if its any consolation I had a brand new honda die on its maiden voyage with less than 20km on the clock and yes it was an electrical issue as well
