I have a 6 speed manual. Just based on driving so far I have been able to stay in my gears for a longer amount of time and feel like I have gained a gear without feeling any strain to have to shift as quickly. For example, I used to be in 3rd gear and feel the engine strain to have to shift into 4th gear at about 40 mph. I would then ride comfortably in 4th until about 55-60 before having to shift into 5th. Since the flashpaq and exhaust, I am in 2nd until about 40 before I have to shift to 3rd and I am at about 55-60 before feeling like I have to shift from 3rd into 4th. Then I can cruise in 4th until at least 65-70. It is like getting used to a whole new engine. Lower rpm's longer through out the gears and staying in gear longer through out the rpm range. Does this make sense? I am interested to see what happens when I install my CAI next week.:iamhappy:
Nice glad to hear your getting positive results! So tell us Doc how does that AFE sound?
When I installed my CAI and exhaust I didnt notice a whole lot of power gain, but what I did notice was throttle response and power delivery seemed to change a little (for the better) The power delivery seemed overall smoother and I was able to hold gears a tad longer which i believe is what your trying to describe here. Not that its gonna knock your socks off with power but that it smooths out the power band a little (thats how it felt for me anyhow YMMV)
Interesting. I installed CAI and exhaust and noticed the same. It does seem to change the power band. It's difficult to explain. I even put ear plugs in my ears to help stop any placebo effect. Lol. I didn't think I would get much benefit from a flashpaq because I have a manual transmission. This thread has changed my mind. The idea of being able to stay in a gear longer would be awesome. Thx
based on fact that these tuners are Calif legal, you are not going to get any dramatic performance hits. What you feel in performance is shift point adjustments at higher RPM. But even these adjustments offer a little help when towing or pulling bigger tires. In order to get some really good level one performance, you would need to mess with air/fuel delivery, meaning new intake and exhaust and adjustments with timing. And the latter three would need to be accomplished before air/fuel mods. The performance days are gone my friend. Drive your jeep as it is and enjoy.. Or stick a Hemi in it..
Compared to what the JK felt like before, I would consider the changes I have received so far as "performance." I am not saying I have a performance vehicle, but relative to what it used to be it is very different in a good way. I put the tuner in first and noticed a change with throttle response and feel, but I seem to have noticed more of a change in the power band (I guess that is what it is called) since I installed the exhaust and now have a combination of the two. I just came back from a day of skiing and it was the longest ride since the install. Over an hour each way, many times hitting 65-70, and I never had it in 5th. This is very unusual compared to before. I also checked my mileage so far. I am up from 16.2 to 17.2 since installing the mods. I reset the ECU the other day and a mechanic friend of mine said I won't be able to tell for a few hundred miles what it will wind up at. I'll take a 1 mpg increase at this point. All in all I am thrilled with the changes so far and I am looking forward to see what the CAI will do when it is installed.
So after reading my last post, you really felt the need to get that off your chest? "Money wasting garbage that makes you feel good"? I'll say it again, I am just giving my observation to those who may be interested. Spoil sport.:mooning:
Well Dr E well have 3 Jeeps and 2
RAM trucks all with Superchips Flashpaqs. If they didn't work we wouldn't have bought 5 of them.
Those that complain evidently don't know how to use it and set it up.
I am running 4.10's "Tuned" running 93 octane and 37's. The tune allows better use of each gear and lower RPM's. Believe it or not, I can start off in 2nd if I'm light on the gas and on flat ground. Before the tune on 32's. Anything under 2k would cause serious lugging of the engine. Love it ... No desire to revert to stock ..: unless I regear of coarse
Hey Dr Evil I want to chime in, kind of a follow-up from the last SC Flashpaq thread we were both in. My last post there mentioned the biggest difference after reflashing from stock to the 87 Octane Tune was the shifting, and that the motor felt less powerful in general. Well, lots of posts here address what I mentioned. In summary, I agree its all up to the user, whether or not something is worth the cash and time. I'm happy and think the Flashpaq was a worthwhile little project for me. If the "CHECK TPMS SYSTEM" issue could be addressed, for us folks who want to keep the EVIC/TPMS, I'd be lots happier (turning off the TPMS all together might get rid of the warning light, but might disable the EVIC TPMS/individual tire display also, not sure). I'm not ready to experiment and possibly spend another $90 for the dealer to reactivate my EVIC TPMS display.
I also installed a new Magnaflow dual axle-back exhaust, a couple weeks after the reflash. The new down shifting and the new/slight rumble in the exhaust really accentuates the new tune's effect on the motor/tranny (down shifting). Its more noticeable to me and I like it.
That's right, but the shifting seems to be why it feels more responsive-mine's an automatic. I might be more critical than some people or may notice it more. Also changed the tire diameter setting, which should be at least part of why the shifting seems more responsive. I'd have to run around town in high rpm's to make a better or more comprehensive judgment on the 87 Octane Tune. High rpms and winding out the motor is not how I drive 99% of the time anyway, so not concerned if the tune helps there or not (there should be less up/down shifting at higher rpms). Then there's the TPMS warning light that I can't get rid of after buying the Flashpaq (to include a trip to the dealer, which was before the Flashpaq). I need to call Super Chips and ask about turning off the TPMS completely, aka the offroad download, and if that'll disable my EVIC tire display x4.
Thanks for the observations Dr Evil. I had been debating whether or not the Flashpaq would be worth it for my manual trans JK. I'm going to need something to reprogram after a tire size change and wasn't sure if going with the extra expense of the Flashpaq over the Flashcal would really be worth the cost on the manual. But, it sounds like it will be.
Just installed my afe CAI. Initial impression is that my exhaust is a tad quieter (just drove around the neighborhood) compared to the stock air box with my afe exhaust. Maybe I hear the exhaust a bit less and the CAI more. Sounds great. The JK and the exhaust doesn't feel as wide open and loose with the CAI (don't know how to describe it another way). Everything (engine and exhaust) feels "tighter" and more controlled if that makes any sense. Going skiing tomorrow so I will have a better test for the ride. Interested to see the gas mileage when I drive for a while. Overall, I now have the "trifecta" with my tuner, exhaust and CAI and I am happy with my efforts and results.
Sweet!! I'm interested in your update on mpg. I love the looks and the sound of my combination. Loud! I promise my neighbors hate it. If I get no other benefit, it's money well spent. I can't decide on a tuner. I'm thinking Traildash but I'm still researching. I'm having a blast. Thx for the update.
Just my $.02...
I have an Auto, 4:10 and I saw better MPG and drivability also.
I am also running 37's and climb on the rocks in Arizona, I have not found the Jeep lacking with the SC.
Well worth the money to me.
Just back from the same ski trip drive I did last week. Here are my results since installing my mods. 16.2 mpg with the tuner only prior to my exhaust install. Last week with the tuner and the exhaust, 17.2 mpg like I reported last week. Today with the tuner, exhaust and CAI, 18.3 mpg. The exhaust has an even lower deeper rumble since adding the CAI yesterday. It sounds absolutely PERFECT!:iamhappy:
Wow. That's great! To me that makes it worth it. I have a 15 ml run I us to test my mileage. I reset, put on Cruz and go. I consistently get 1 to 1.5 better mileage then stock. If a tuner can help add to that, great. I'm having fun just getting greasy. I'm surprised we're not getting flamed. Lmao
Been reading this thread the past few days. Two things I've noticed:
1. Thanks for the honest feedback on your experience with the Flashpaq. I also have a 2 door, 2010 and Flashpaq and really appreciate seeing the different combos that folks are running.
2. Didn't see any mention of what size tires you're running...still stock or did you upsize?
The Flashpaq definitely makes a HUGE difference for us 3.8 owners, I'm not so sure on the 3.6 and really don't understand why people buy them for an already well set up engine/transmission combo.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
