Wheel Spacers and Dealerships

I know this is probably going to fall in line with "your experience will vary" department, but I'm wondering how individuals who run wheel spacers fare when getting their vehicles serviced (tires rotated) at the dealership. I know that several businesses treat spacers like the plague and won't touch a vehicle running them, so what's your experience been?

PS
Please don't allow this thread to turn into a you should/shouldn't run wheel spacers because X,Y, and Z... I'm just looking for personal experiences (I know I can call my local dealership and ask them, but, like I said, I want to hear from the community what their experiences are)... Thanks all!

I don't know about Dealers, but Discount tire won't touch them, because of liability issues!

i haven't had anybody say anything about my spacers. 3 different dealerships have seviced my jeep and one torqued them down for me with the "free inspection". big o tires fixed a flat and rotated my tires and didn't seem to care that they were there. and actually discount also checked for a leak for me when my tpms kept going off and didn't say a word about them. they been on there since day 3 and i've had no issues with any shop.

It is extremely rare to have problems with quality spacers that are maintained properly.

Objections by shops definitely fall in the case-by-case category. For instance I know that some Discount Tire dealer won' touch spacers but my local store mounted 12.5" wide tires on stock rims (1/2" beyond spec) and installed the spacers and wheels on top of them a after a brief and simple conversation with the shop manager. Every time I went for rotation a would encounter a new shop manager for that shift and was able to get them to accept the spacers without much discussion. I have a friend about 20 miles south that has a long argument every time with his DT store and once they completely refused to do it.

The dealer is a different story. Even if they don't complain about it, they will take notice and if you have a wheel or suspension issue in the future they will notice in their records that you had spacers. Every out of spec mod just give's them more justification to recuse honoring the warranty.

Having fought warranty issues in the past with Jeep dealers, I prefer to have an unblemished record if I need to file a claim.

Discount Tire absolutely WILL touch them! In fact, they will rotate them too. They have done mine for 50,000 miles (10 times). Different states and locations (I call to see which place has the shortest wait). I even had mine rotated I few blocks from the headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ.

I've had zero issues on both of my JKUs with spacers at the dealer or at DT. I just went in yesterday for a rotate and balance and they even re torqued the spacers without me even asking.

Then it depends on store location, because some definitely won't.......

I wounder what their Corporate policy is on it........

Interesting, because I live about 10 miles from their Headquarters out in Cave Creek, and I use to work at the Hospital next to their Headquarters!

The first shop wouldn't touch mine for liability reasons. Going to depend on the dealership/shop you're dealing with.
Same with 12.5 tires on 7-8" wheels.

The policy has gone back and forth often. Although, in the past two years I've yet to run across one that won't.

Why would you let a dealership touch your tires? That's a guaranteed way to get it not done right around here. Probably a 50% chance they'll say they rotated them and dont.

We all use a source that we are comfortable with.

The first trip that I made after purchasing my new Rubicon was to Discount Tire.
I always purchase their road hazard warranties, which includes free rotations and re-balance if needed, and also damage replacement. I think it was about $157.00.

They offer this policy on new tires when you buy them from them, but also at the same price for tires on a new vehicle. I have collected on it a few times, and think that it is a well worth the money!!!!!!

It's all about finding someone you trust... I have a five tire rotation done at the dealership every six months... At first, I would take off certain valve stem covers and check that the proper ones were covered after the rotation, now I know I can trust them to do what they say they will...
