hey guys, im looking to move forward and put a lift on my jeep. i already bought 6 ton jack stands and am looking to get a floor jack. which one do i need? 1.5 ton, 3 ton or 4 ton. they are on sale at harbor freight which is just around the corner from me.
I do lift from the axles, I want to go high enough to use big jack stands, I also have a truck that will use the same jack with. I have a 3 ton jack now that lifts to about 21" and it is not as high as I want.
well i just picked up the 3 ton floor jack at hf. it was on sale for $85. it lifts just short of 20". i hope that is sufficient. it was steel. the aluminum one was double the price.
My HF 3 ton just crapped the bed. Used it a handful of times. Seals failed and bled hydraulic fluid. Biggest waste of $$. Now I need to find a real jack.
I have a couple of jacks. An old hand me down Blackhawk that seems like it will never stop working and HF 2 ton with almost 24" max lift. The extra lift was nice when I had 38s but I can already tell it is not immortal. It is not as well as made as the 3 ton aluminum jack.
If you rotate your own tires it is worth investing in a quality floor jack. You can get away with cheap floor jack but don't skimp on the jack stands and always use them even if you throw the tires under your Jeep.
Thats the jack I have and most of my Jeep buddies have. 2 tons is plenty. It lifts my 4 door with no problem. Its also a 25"(might be 24") jack so you can get it high enough jacking under the axle to get 6 ton jack stands under the frame, take the tires off, and droop the axle and get it out. Thats all I would EVER need the height for. I cant imagine ever needing to go higher with a jack and stands. if I needed to go higher I would want to be on a lift.
When I was researching floor jacks to get above a 24"ish lift height you went to big $$$$.
