Wrangler 2010-2011 models recall

This is a very serious issue as it might/will result in DW..

Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
JEEP / WRANGLER 2010-2011
Manufacturer: CHRYSLER GROUP LLC Mfr's Report Date: MAR 01, 2011
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V145000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY
Potential Number of Units Affected: 20,459
Summary:
CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES MANUFACTURER FROM JULY 12, 2010, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 10, 2010. SOME VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE A DEGRADATION OF FASTENER TORQUE FOR VARIOUS FRONT AND REAR AXLE ATTACHMENTS TO THE CHASSIS MODULE.
Consequence:
THIS COULD RESULT IN NOISE, OR ULTIMATELY, DEGRADATION IN STEERING AND HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS WHICH COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL RE-TORQUE ALL NINETEEN FASTENERS TO THE MAXIMUM RESIDUAL TORQUE VALUES. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
Notes:
CHRYSLER SAFETY RECALL NO. L09. OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

My comments:

This is another major snafu" we are dealing with..I don't know the building sequence at the Chrysler plant but most probably the chassis components are installed with the chassis upside down on the assembly line..This will facilitate assembly. It seems to be logical for me that the "FINAL" torque needs to be done with the chassis on its wheel such that all suspension components are normally loaded. (I explained that in one of the other posts dealing with DW). It seems Chrysler just missed an operation..How else can you explain the "nicely crafted statement
SOME VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE A DEGRADATION OF FASTENER TORQUE FOR VARIOUS FRONT AND REAR AXLE ATTACHMENTS TO THE CHASSIS MODULE.
Seen the fact that certain torques are very critical to generate the designed clamping load (i.e track bar etc..) I wonder how the dealer will fix that.. Just run the air power impact tool until .........?
Just a "reflection" .. They seem to have good lawyers crafting these notices..

Thanks for the heads up, first I've heard of this. Will check it out next oil change with the dealer.

Not sure that they forgot to torque them, read another version of that down here where they stated the problem stems from Dana changing from a thin water based paint to a heavier solvent based paint with runs. The thicker paint allowed the bolts to torque up on the paint then the paint is softening as the diffs heat up, losing the tension on the bolts.

It was discovered by a mechanic trying to solve a misaligned steering wheel that kept moving once he set it.

Not good by any means and if we can believe the statements from Chrysler actually not their fault.

Mine is a March 2010 model and I can confirm that the paint on the diffs was really thin with surface rust showing through the day it was delivered with only 65 kilometers on the speedo (and 45 of those was me test driving!).

One of the first things I did to it was to loosen all suspension bolts, bounce it up and down then retorwue them all just to be safe.

Just called Chrysler today because my 2011 should be in this. I had entered my VIN on the Jeep website to search for the recall and it would not show the recall info. It did show that it was included in another recall for the door latches. When I called Jeep to inquire, they could not confirm that mine was included in the chassis recall even though it was made in August 2010. However, they did confirm the door latch recall and two others were released on March 4. The two other issues were a JK Freedom top panel water leak fix, and a 3.8L OBD II PCM Flash-which they could not tell me what the flash was supposed to change/fix. Funny that I had mine into the dealer last Saturday (Sliman's Chrysler Jeep in Amherst, Ohio) for an oil change. They didn't tell me of any of these recalls while I had it there for service-and they forgot to put the oil filler cap back on-not very confidence building for a 5 star dealer.

Dealers won't check your VIN for recalls/TSBs, YOU have to schedule it, so they can get reimbursed by Chrysler and

If you have an auto tranny-the "flashed" your ECM for the J30 recall- "Hot OIL" warning light-

If you have a manual tranny-?????

Just thought that maybe they would be nice enough to notify me that these recalls actually exist-especially the door latch one. I actually had them look at the doors since I am having issues with them-they said nothing.
