I went to start my jeep last sunday.. the lights didn't turn on or the gauges didn't move.. no clicking when turning the key. So I put my diehard platinum battery on the charger and it was 100%. put it back in my jeep and same thing.. nothing... brought the battery back to sears and they said the battery is good. i bought new terminals because i have the type that you can tighten with the additional post for accessories.. i think it may be a marine style.. not really sure.

So im going to clean the posts of the battery and i bought new batter terminals/connections so hopefully that will do the trick..

if not what else could it be other than the main ground/power cables being cut or something like that?

I looked at the fuses under the hood and those were all fine.. I didn't test the relays tho.

thanks for the help

Verify power is getting to the starter. Also verify voltage drop-place one lead of your volt meter on the positive battery post and the other down at the positive battery terminal on the starter. You should see a colt or two. If you are getting battery voltage you have a cable issue

thank you.. wouldn't my lights and gauges turn on even if power wasn't getting to the starter?

also do you have a good thread on using a volt meter? I have one but never really 100% understood on how to use it. Thanks again

electrical is not one of my strong suits but i know i need to get a lot better

Additionally I am not in agreement that using positive manifold pressure requires a larger bore intake. Case in point the 300zx. Differences in turbo vs NA did not include a different intake

Differences were limited to piston dish, radiator ,injectors ,computer ,turbo ,plus exhaust and different plumbing between hot wire air flow meter and intake to accommodate going the turbo
Also oil to turbo and back to pan and on all but first year plumbing coolant already passing thru throttle body thru coolant passages in turbo

And you did get significant horsepower increase despite identical heads valves and intake

Since your lights/dash don't turn on I would start thinking ignition switch
As you turn the key to start it lift up on the key and see if that makes a difference. That was my problem

As far as meter basics-you tube volt meter testing-videos by Scanner Danner on you tube are great. He also has one on a Jeep that won't start

Your starter could be frozen. This is what happened to me. My starter went bad. I could tell it was going bad because a couple of times, my Wrangler would not start when the Jeep was warm. I would go into the store and come back out, and it wouldn't start. Nothing. No crank at all. Then, I left it overnight and came back the next day, and it started right up. Eventually, leaving it did not work. I heard that hitting the starter with a hammer, might unfreeze it. My best guess is that your starter is seized. If your starter is seized, it won't move or crank. The starter motor swells, and sometimes when it cools, it will un-swell. Sometimes, it swells and seizes, and you have to replace it. But, you can try knocking it with a hammer or wrench. If that works, then, you know its the starter for sure.

With no lights when key is in accessory position, that seems to be bad battery or bad lines. People often don't realize the necessity for a proper ground for things to work properly. Also making sure your terminals are tight.

Can you take a battery from a donor vehicle and see if any changes?

Could also be ignition switch

alright so i cleaned the battery posts and started it up!!

however today i went to go start my jeep and in the odometer it says "no buS".. so i replaced the CPS sensor because a lot of people said to start with that.. so with the new CPS sensor it still doesn't start.

It tries to turn over. However it acts as though it is not getting spark.. Theres fuel in the rails. However I have the coil rail in my jeep. Not sure how to test that.

Any suggestions would be great!

ps: no trouble codes

I've been having similar issues with my 97. I trickle charged my battery, cleaned battery posts, steel brushed cable ends and did a baking soda mixture to clean up corrosion. So far it has started strong and runs good. I think I have a bigger issue however, so am going to replace battery cables tonight and make sure I've got a good ground connection.

Did you get yours straightened out?
