01 Jeep Wrangle Transmission cooler valve ?

I have a stock 2001 Jeep Wrangler with a 4 cly. and auto transmission. The problem I have is the transmission cooler line has what I would call a no back valve that won't allow the fluid to drain back into the Tranny once you stop driving. The valve is leeking bad and I call the dealer and they wanted $110 for line and they assumed the valve would be on it because they couldn't find it as a seperate part.

So my question here is it a neccessity that the valve be there because today I just put in a regluar fitting to tide me over until I got the new one but once I found out the price I thought I would ask this.

Thanks

Yes that valve is necessary, it prevents the ATF from draining out of the torque converter. Have you tried a junkyard for pair of hard lines? The only problem is that you have to make sure you get them for your model year and engine since the hard lines are often bent differently for different model years. Hardlines out of a '99 that came with a transmission I bought for my TJ did not fit my '97 properly.
