just got my first jeep, , 03 tj 4.0l manual trans, and 3:73's. i have always wanted a lifted jeep. 33' tires minimum , will see trails and some off road.. need to know how much lift i need for 33's .. would love 35's but can't afford to regear anytime soon... what is the recommend lift amount without going overboard. i do have a budget. but don't wanna do things twice.... Will a 4 inch need to have the slip yoke eliminator done? what lift do you guys recommend ,
If you are going to offroad, then 4" of additional clearance is ideal for 33's. If you go with 3" springs and a 1-1.25" Body Lift with a 1" Motor Mount Lift, then you can avoid the SYE/CV or a transfercase drop.
Many of us are running the Zone Combo 4.25" for $529. Great kit for the money!
x2 for the zone combo. threw it on the gf's jeep with 33" MT/R's, an Aussie up front and a Metal Cloak adj track bar. for a budget rig, it goes pretty much anywhere.
did have to space down the TC skid ~.25" to remove driveline vibes after the combo lift
I have a 2" lift and have had 32s on mine without a problem, but I normally run 31s. A 2 1/2" to 3" may get you by with 33s. As stated above, if you go to a 4" you may have to do some other adjustments. Just a note, with the 31s I am running now with 3.73s, I have just enough power to get by on freeway driving. Show me the smallest hill and I have to take my automatic out of overdrive. Putting 33s on may make you want to re-gear it. Lots of treads on here having to do with 33s on TJs.
Have 03 Rubicon with 3.5" lift and 33's. Front tires scrub a little on full lock but not a problem. Careful on the tires; I got 9-ply Goodrich's and they were simply TOO hard. Never could get rid of vibration at highway speed until I got rid of them.
3" suspension + 1.25" body along with a motor mount lift I found would be the easiest and cheapest way to clear 33's nicely. I didn't use a kit and went with 4" of suspension lift that I sourced myself plus 1.25" body and its almost to much lift for 33's, especially with flat flares, the tires look disproportionate. I needed to drop my transfer case about an inch to correct driveline angles, I didn't want to use skid spacers so I spent the money on a low profile transmission mount. It's one of those parts that will aid my build down the road so it was worth it.
