06 TJ... Strange pulsing/rubbing noise when accelerating

So i just recently purchased my TJ and it runs great. No problems i can find at all. The only thing i am somewhat worried about is what sounds like a pulsing or a rubbing or a quick rhythmic vibration at the front of the vehicles passenger side when i accelerate. it's only when i accelerate though. it's not very loud at all. it's sometimes hard to notice, and other times i forget about it all together. it's most noticeable in third gear, and unnoticeable in sixth.

As far as i can tell the noise does not affect driving at all. Truthfully i could all together forget about the noise if someone could tell me that it was just a jeep thing that you have to get used to and that it would not get worse, etc.

Any input you can give me as to what this noise it, if i should be worried, or if i can just rest easy would be greatly appreciated.

Does the noise change when you drive it in 4H?

What engine RPMs does the noise occur at?

I haven't really noticed the noise at all in 4H, and i don't know if that's because when i'm in 4H i'm typically off road and there is too much noise to be able to hear it, or if it doesn't make the noise in 4H. Either way, i don't hear the noise in 4H.

my noise sounds a little different from your noise. if anything, at higher rpms my noise is unnoticeable. it's more noticeable at around 2000 rpms, just cruising comfortably in third fourth and fifth.

I think it might be your u joints ... Remove the front drive shaft and drive it around and see if the noise is still there. If not, then you found your problem.

Thanks for your reply. If it does happen to be the u joints, could it be that the previous owner never really had 4x4 engaged and that it was never really off road?? I read some things that eluded to problems like that. Also, how expensive is it to replace rusty/worn out u joints, and can i do it myself. I'm a mere weekend mechanic, and i'm pretty handy but might worry if the fix is too extensive.
