'06 TJ with Body Lift.. Want to add suspension lift
We bought this TJ new (2006) and the dealer contracted to put the custom package on. Included a 3" body lift, 33's and all the stuff you see on it..
Just had to replace the tires so we swapped out the wheels for these and started some research. Had we known anything about jeeps 3 years ago, would have gone straight for the 4" instead, but live and learn.
Wife really likes the look the way it is (it's technically hers) but I want to add a real lift to it.
4x4 shop is trying to talk me into a 4" lift RC lift. Since she likes the current BL, I probably wont remove it, so if I continue to run 33s, will the 4" lift make it look bad? Will it add more space above the wheels? Thinking a 2.5" might make it ride a little smoother with new springs/shocks and let me run light trails.. BTW, it never goes off-road now, but I would like to play a little.
Will the 4" require additional stuff? Could I just add a 2.5 or 3 without mods and messing anything up?
As most people here will tell you I would remove the body lift and put in a smaller one. Like the JKS 1.25"... I'll let someone else explain why, don't have the time for long explanation. And if you go over about 3 inches of suspension lift you will get into needing other things like an SYE (Slip Yoke Eliminator) and a different drive shaft, so that is basically another 400-500 dollars alone. All depends on what you want to do with it. There really is no need of going with a huge suspension lift if you never do anything and it would probably be better to just do what they call a budget boost. Which is simply a 2" spacer on top of the coil. Keeps a stock-like ride and all you would need is longer shocks then! And if you decide on doing something with the body lift you can always do that later.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I made the move and swapped the 3"BL for a 1" BL and a RE 3.5". Jeep looks and drives much better - think the steering stabilizer and the different center of gravity has helped -- or maybe it's all in my head, but it looks much cooler..
Anyways - my mechanic tells me there is a slight driveline vibe now and I might want to consider the SYE.. I barely feel it at all. Have had it up to around 70 and I notice a little in my seat when getting on the accel, but not for long, and really have to pay close attention to notice.
Do you think the SYE is needed? Since I just got the lift and the 3.5 is more like 4" right now since it has yet to settle, should I wait a little bit for the springs to settle before deciding to get the SYE? RE recommends with my lift but it isn't specified as necessary.
I know people with 4in suspension lifts who dont have SYE and all is good, and on the other hand another friend has a 4in suspension lift and a SYE and his driveshaft fell out while driving home from work, so i say over 4in you NEED a SYE but 4in and under NO SYE
Good to know... I figure my 3.5" springs are sitting tall right now, so as they settle a little, any remaining vibe should go away.. or at least enough to not notice at all...
So.. what next? New gears? (running stock on 33"s -- 6pd '06).. Had the 33s since new, so don't know what stock is like.. Heard 4.56's will give me much more power and allow me to actually use 6th gear without a tailwind and a hill...

from the look of the second pic...the skidplate looks like it sits a little lower than normal which means they probably installed it.

it looks like i have the same model TJ as bullgator, 2006 6-speed TJ, yet i only have a 2,5" OME suspension lift with another inch or so of their yellow coil spacers. i was running (only) 31's this summer, but am thinking of going 32 or even 33 when i have to buy new ones in the spring (boring little 15" winter tires right now for icy swiss streets). and i really feel a huge loss in power between small and large tires.
so do you guys think 4.56 are the best gears to improve acceleration a bit with 32's or 33's?
also, bullgator, what kind of tires do you have? like it?
