Going to be doing a clutch in my 1997 TJ, was wondering what opions out there are on which kit would be best? Would like a kit that would include everything I would need. Have read a lot of positive things about LUK clutches which kit would be the best? Posibly one that contains throwout bearing piot bearing slave cylinder the whole shabang? thank you all for your time
Luk's kit is indeed the way to go. It includes the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing and pilot shaft. It'll hold up to pretty much anything you can throw at it.
05-065 If it's a 4.0L. Parts Geek has about the best deal I've found at just under $100 with shipping. I've ordered about three from them in the past year or so, and they typically get here in about 3 days without any issues.
Yeah, true...i just assumed his was a 4.0 when i gave the part number lol
Thanks for mentioning parts geek as well...i was going to order my kit from them a few weeks ago but wasnt sure if it was a complete kit or if it was missing any bearings or shafts which would be needed separately.
Thank you sir yea I have the 2.5 just bought the jeep odometer states 136000 don't know if that's the mileage on the clutch or not talked to a few of you guys and from the sound of it I need a clutch so figured I'd just do the whole shabang.
I replaced my original clutch at 80,000+ due to the throw out bearing retainer spring rusting away. The original clutch looked awful good, it was one of those..."While I am there" kind of things.
The replacement has about 200,000 miles on it, the original will go back if this one ever wears out.
I replaced mine at about 130,000 miles, and I bought mine used so I don't know how it was driven before. I've seen many replaced at 120K-150K, but I've also seen them go over 200K miles. It just depends. At 130K miles, you're likely due.
Yes, Pressure plate, clutch plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool. It would be a good idea to pick up a clutch return spring from your local dealer. Probably around $5. here's a pic.
