1998 Mystery Misfire

I am new to the WF, but I have a 1998 6 cyl automatic that has an intermittent misfire/backfire that only happens every few days, lasts only a few minuets then goes away. I have been to several mechanics (really good ones) I have replaced everything related to plugs, wires, distributor cap, map sensor, and I cant get it worked out. Afer every mechanic looks at it, I runs fine for a few days then back to the "burping". This is about to send me into therapy lol. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked or replaced the throttle positioning sensor (TPS)?
