Just bought a 1998 sport 4.0 with a bunch 'o miles on it. Checked it out and a/c was cold as heck. Stayed that way for days. Went outside couple of days ago (in about 103 deg. heat) and a/c wouldn't blow cold. I thought it was just too stinking hot for it to work but the compressor wasn't cycling at all. Drove to dinner that night(it was cooler) and it was ice cold again. Tried again and again, in the mid day heat the compressor does not cycle. During the cooler times of the day the a/c works like it is supposed to. What gives? When it is not cycling, I have shorted the two sensors under the hood but to no avail. I know one sensor is low freon but I have no idea what the other is. I also swapped the controls with a known good one and it still didn't work. Any ideas? Is there some ambient temp something or another stopping this thing from cycling when too hot or something? I'm grabbing at straws here but that's al lI can think of.
