1999 Jeep TJ Electrical Problem

My gas gauge, speedometer, and oil pressure gauge all quit working at the same time. The speedometer doesn't register anything, the oil pressure peg is high, and the gas gauge registers as empty. Does anybody have any ideas as how to persue this problem? Thanks.

Yep, the connector to the gauge cluster isn't making great contact...common issue with some.

Just pull the cluster out and clean the contacts well and make sure they are connected well.

What year is your TJ? The speedo should always register because it's cable driven... unless it's newer and it's electronically controlled.

The Speedo on the 99 TJ is not connected to a cable.
When you pull the cluster, you'll see two sets of 8 (maybe ten, I wasn't paying that much attention) pins each on the back of the cluster.
(I had mine off today)

Pull the gauge cluster out (it's very easy). It is one piece and to get at it you have to remove the windshield defroster vent cover, the plastic panel under the steering wheel may have to come off also. It's pretty self explanatory once you start on it. once you have accessed and removed all of the screws around the gauge cluster it simply pulls straight out. There will be two plugs behind it. Hit them with some electrical contact cleaner, and very carefully bend the pins in so the make better contact with the other end of the plug. Put dab of dielectric grease on the connector and replace the gauge cluster only. Turn the engine over and see if that fixed it before reassembling entire dash. This is a very common issue for TJ's.

However on mine, it did the exact same thing but it was a dirty mud filled relay behind the glove box.
