Hello everyone, I have had this whine in neutral and 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. I have a 99 tj with 4.0 and 5 speed. In neutral it is least noticeable. 1st gear and downshifting from 3rd to second is the worst. It does not happen in 4th 5th or reverse. And it's weird because it shifts without a problem. I changed the transmission fluid with no luck. I really hope it's something simple like a throw out bearing. What do you guys think? Any help would he greatly appreciated thank you fellow jeepers.
without hearing the sound I'd say it's just gear whine...and likely not a problem. noises are the type of thing that can't easily be diagnosed from afar.
If I wanted to take it to a transmission shop i wouldnt be on this forum trying to cure the problem myself. The noise is very high pitched and only happens in neutral and gears 1-3. I don't think I can post a video here.
