1999 Wrangler 4.0L idle too high, adjustment?

Just bought my first jeep and have had fun since day one! One thing I have found is that the idle is so high (750-1000) that when i put it in gear it lunges and can actually move at 10mph without me touching the gas.

Is there any adjustment to this or is it electronically fixed? Is this common to all 4.0L?

any help would be appreciated.

also - the back brakes are drum...any help with adjusting these so they help the front more than they are?

FYI - the jeep only has 48,000 miles and was never off road until now!

My 98 idles at 750-1000. I have a manual so I just let the clutch out slow. is yours a manual or automatic?

so it doesnt jump when I put it in gear... Like if your stoped, put it in first and your foot slips off the clutch... then its going to bog down and jump if it doesn't stall.

Try cleaning your IAC and throttle body. Your IAC might be stuck in open position if it idles at 1000 RPMs.

Also when the engine is cold, it will idle around 1000 RPMs.

Rear brakes on any vehicle are set up to only provide 40% of all braking required as to the 60% that the front provide. This is to help the rear of the vehicle to stay straight while braking.
