Mine always gots Mobil1, one liter of Lucus engine oil stabilizer, and k&n filter... The Lucus keeps the lifters happy I had 113,000 miles when I sold my LJ and the lifters where making a little noise with out the Lucus...

with only around 40k miles you probably don't need the Lucus...

Mobil1 is only synthetic Mobil is conventional oil and yes the highmilage will have more zinc which in turn will make your lifters last longer....

As the others have said in the end its all down to owners preference. Personally I always run with a Mopar filter, half a litre of Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and 3.5 litres of Rotella T5, as thats what Mopar uses from factory now.

I used to run royal purple and k&n filters, for years ive done this, but i am sticking with mobil and the motorcraft FL-1A filter, and i change every 5,000. Unless its been run hard then it gets it sooner, i usually judge the color and smell of the oil. But yes this is very debated and owner preference has a lot to do with it, people perspectives are their realities. Oh and i use seafoam every 10,000 miles

As many will say, its all personal preference. I use conventional Valvoline and whatever filter is on sale right now. A little reading told me that Carquest oil is re-branded Valvoline, and their blue filters are WIX, so ill be going this route for my next change.

I currently run Wix Filters with Castrol GTX High Mileage Oil, but might change brands this next oil change.

That's a good choice that is very high in Zinc and with help with the old style design that the 4.0 motor is known for...

I've got a buddy who is a Rural Carrier with USPS here in South Texas and got himself a right hand drive 01 TJ. He's been using Royal Purple 10W-30 with wix filter for sometime now and getting tired of spending so much $$$ with oil changes that he's now open to the idea of using something other that RP. What oil would most of you recommend for a workhorse like that? Go with a less expensive conventional oil? Go high mileage? Heavier viscosity perhaps? Would something like Rotella T5 10w-40 be something he might want to try in this texas heat. I'm not sure if his particular situation would call for a different oil requirement than most?

Wal-Mart: five quarts of Mobil1 (regular or high-mileage) $24.99 + 1 quart $7. Filter: I perfer Mobil1, but really your choice. K&N has got the 1" nut on'em.
