2.5L A/C Removal

For a longtime when ever i had the heat i would hear a hum inside the cab for a few seconds then a nothing. I discovered its the A/C compressor kicking on and off, though it is not on or anything. Maybe a stupid question (i never had cars with A/C), is this normal?

Second question:
Has anyone ever removed the A/C?
If so any tips?

Thank you!

Removing the A/C is not that difficult. Just have it purged at a shop and start unbolting stuff. Replace the belt with the proper no A/C belt. Of course that is just removing the compressor. Removing the other stuff is quite labor intensive. I had A/C installed in my Jeep. When I read the instructions I decided to let a mechanic do it as it required removing the dash and doing a bunch of work to the firewall and the like. Oh, removing the all the A/C equipment will leave a hole in the firewall that will need to be plugged.
