2.5L Axle Swap

Just need to confirm this before I go and purchase it. I found a 98 TJ with a 2.5L and 5 speed manual. From what I've found, these come with 4.10 gears, and a Dana 30 up front, 35 out back. These axles should be a direct swap to my 05 TJ 4.0L auto, correct?

What size tires do you plan to run? This will be a wasted effort for anything other than stock tires.

I run 33s with 4.10s 5 speed/6 cylinder and its marginal at best. I couldn't imagine how terrible this set up would perform with the auto OD transmission.

I'm on 33s with the 4 speed. I don't need mine as a DD beyond going to the grocer and the gym - both within 2km of my house. Cost will be nothing after I sell off other parts of vehicle. 4.88s or 5.13s are in the cards with bigger axles down the road, but at the cost of $500 for the vehicle, this is an improvement for now.

5.13's wont fit in your d30...4.88 is the lowest you can go without replacing the axle completely.

also, 33's are the biggest you should really put on a d35 if you're wheeling...i had 32's on my current d35 for a while and now am running 35's but she goes under the knife for an 8.8 in the rear, 4.88's, and chromoly shafts in the d30 in 3 weeks...

?? Don't get the comment. If he has an auto and is going to 4.10, it should be a big improvement over what he has. 4.10's work great w 32's and are ok with 33's. I still have fifth gear w 32's but have to down shift w 33's. The swap is easy and you will definitely see and feel a difference over your current setup

4.10s do not work OK with 33s and the 4 speed auto. Yes it is an improvement versus 3.07 but its kind of like settling on a fat toad versus holding out for for a hot chick. My point is that this is a waste of time and effort because he really needs 4.88s at a minimum with if he is running 33s. Who even knows how the rig is set up. Dude hasn't responded in days.

Some of us want the most from all aspects of life while others are happy being mediocre.

It would be better than your setup. Autos are easier on gearing.

4.10 at the right price is better than nothing if you can't afford optimal.
