2.5L engine fuel line question

Ok so last year I replaced the engine due to a Fram oil filter, well I broke that little black plastic fuel line that goes from the fuel line to the damper, I couldn't find one and I replaced it with a 1/4" ID rubber fuel hose and two clamps that were made for fuel injected vehicles, now here it is a year later and I had to replace the rubber line today, and it reminded me to ask, do I need that Black Plastic line or i s a rubber hose good enough?
If I need that special line , where can I get one I've searched everywhere and I can't find one of those.
