2.5L tech question

New member looking for help. 2000 2.5L will not keep running. Starts no problem and no engine light on at all but dies after only a few seconds. Looking for assistance.

First thing that would make me think of is the fuel pump or some kind of blockage. There is usually a small valve on the fuel rail, try pressing it in like your letting air out of a tire when it dies and see if it has good pressure still...

Any other ideas people?

Thanks for the reply. Been there. Always had good fuel pressure but replaced the fuel pump, filter and pressure regulator. $250 later still the same problem.

Any more ideas? Willing to try almost anything.

Does it start back up after it runs for a few seconds and dies?

Mine was sort of doing the same thing, but it would run about a minute or so..and then start fading out..then die. It didn't just quit.. it sounded like it was running out of gas. I didn't run right out and spend money on a fuel pump though, I tried to keep it running with starting fluid, and then a squirt bottle full of gas. Also, the other symptom of mine, that you didn't say you had.. after mine died, it turned over real slow, Id have to let it sit a couple a minutes, then it would crank fine, fire up..run for a minute, and die again.

Mine ended up being the ground on the block, dirt and grease. I pulled it off, cut the cable and put a new end on it, cleaned the bracket etc, and put it back together, ran like a dream.

Im talking about the ground cable that is connected to the coil bracket. I pulled the bracket and all off and cleaned it.

I guess once the block gets loaded with juice.. it quits sparking... I must have had just enough contact with the cable that it trickled off after a couple minutes.

Thanks for the tips. This gives me something to look at. I will give this a try and keep you posted. In my case there is no trickle down, it fires up and dies totally. It will start right back up immediately after no problem.

I was wondering if you ever got your problem taken care of because I now have the very same problem. I have also replaced fuel pump, socks, and regulator. It will fire right up and die over and over. I sure could use some good news at this point.
