Unhappy 2 Issues

Hi, All

I bought a '97 TJ for my son. It has a 4 cyl, 2.5L engine. I have two problems:

1) When you run in 5th gear, it starts sputtering after a while and stops accelerating. If he stops the jeep, turn it off and back on again, he's good to go until next time it happens.

2) The oil pressure gauge drops to 0 when idle sometimes. My guess is the oil pump as we replaced the oil pressure sensor.

Any thoughts will be appreciate. Love the car, but the sputtering is driving us crazy.

Does it feel like something is holding it back? As in, its driving fine, then all the sudden it feels like someones pushing a brake on the engine, or is it more like a misfire type sputter?

Check your catalytic converter. Crawl under there after it has cooled down, and bang on it a little bit and see if anything rattles around. This is not a fool proof test, since if the honey comb turned completly sideways it may not vibrate, but thats my guess.

See if you have any error codes.
