2000 TJ Short Problem

HI all,

I have a 2000 4.0 6 cl. manuel TJ and have just started having a starting problem. When I would put the key in and turn it would not start. Well I took the battery out and got it tested at autozone its fine. So I took the Starter out and had them test it and its fine as well.

So what it does is I can start it just fine if the battery is charged and it runs great, but when I turn it off something is draining the battery and by the next morning the battery is dead. Basically I have a short some where but I cant figure out where. Does anyone know the best way to test for a short?

I have a meter and one of those 12 volt circuit testers. When I pull the negative cable off the battery with the vehicle off and put the circuit tester between the negative post and the negative cable the light lights up but only for a second or two. I was under the impression that if there was a short in the system causing something to pull power from the battery with the vehicle off that tester would light up and stay on.

Also don't know if its related but I have had an intermittent problem with the gauge cluster every so often while I'm driving they will zero out and a swift tap to the top of the console will bring them back.

Thanks for the help.

I believe I have narrowed it down to the IOD fuse. it is the only fuse that when pulled and a 12 V circuit tester is placed over the fuse terminals it lights up.

What is the IOD fuse and what does it control????????????????????

From what I read here

It controls most of your lights, radio ect.
I'm looking thru my Haynes manual but havent found anything yet
